Im not saying this is you homebooby but i find it really strange how some people on this forum can change their opinion of a player or the team after just one match. I aint just talkings bout todays match but other times in general.

- Well I have nothing else to add other than what I have already posted. He seems to get knocked off the ball a lot, gives it away quite cheaply and thus made little impact this evening.

Which sums up your entire opinion on the player. He didn't play all that great tonight and you're writting him off. I don't care how many games you haven't seen, don't judge a player based on one game.

I and everybody else on this forum can tell you that Alonso is a class player and that whenever he's been on the pitch nine times out of ten he's made an impact. We're not basing this one game like you are.

I agree and I have been watching the boards long enough now to know that that would be the easy answer that people would give to my comments and the first thing that people would point out. It is a fair point.

I remain of the same opinion, we should have taken them easily.

Incidentally, noone has mentioned how scandalous it is that Parlour ended up on the pitch for 90 mins. He should have been off in the first half. Commentators were saying that he should have known better, but that is just it...he was performing cynical professional fouls,

you keep getting hung up on this one. I beg to differ, my opinion is that often he performs as this evening and the pre-season was a good example of it.

I keep using this evening as an example as it is what prompted me to post in the first place.

.. I see that the slanging matches continue :(

My analysis, we played solidly and could have won 3/4 -0, as it is nowt went in, but we bossed the game. There were some good perfromances, SG, all the back 5, Sissoko looks decent and may keep Hamman out. Up front despite all the options we still don't look like scoring.. however I think things will improve..

..gettin over the psychological barrier of the away game, is perhaps why the Boss adopted his first half tactics and it worked in creating confidence and the dominant second half display..

Of course dissappointed that we did not get the win.. but  this Team is goin places.. In the Boss I trust
:)

i would have preferred if cisse & risse had started ahead of mori & zenden (if it was really necessary to play 4-5-1)............ But anyway, i was happy with the performance but not the result.

momo looks good..... With his height, pace and ability to win the ball, he might also make a good centrehalf too. So if we can't get any CB before transfer and hyppia gets injured, i guess momo can do a job there. (or maybe i am too drunk  :p ).

Anyway Cisse is our top-striker and he should start every game (4-5-1 or 4-4-2 or fock-the-formation)....... Juz wanna state that.................................

disappointing result for sure, but there's lots to be positive about - we played away to a side that qualified for europe, and we never looked in any danger of conceding a goal. For me that's a massive improvement on last year. Warnock looked comfortable at left back, which is a position I'm worried about.
We didn't do well enough going forward its true. We didn't score, so in a way Homebooby is right, because nothing the midfield did was productive. But I don't think its realistic at all to say that therefore the likes of Alonso can't cut it!!
Sissoko was excellent again. If we can rely on that from him then we will be getting a lot of the other players forward more in future. Morientes was OK, but he's not at this best as a target man, and in the 1st half he wasn't getting much support. One big disappointment for me - Zenden! I'm not going to write him off this early, but I can't remember seeing much good from him this season so far, and today he might as well have stayed at home. Maybe the fans got to him but he's a highly experienced international FFS!

We seem to have forgotten how to score all of a sudden.

Already two points behind the leaders...Charlton!

Need to be taking three points versus teams like that, especially with 10 men.

played very well i thought though, and sissoko was man of the match.

One match in and the knives are out I see :D

Not long got back from the game and was pleased with a lot i saw today. We wil play worse and win games this season but thats football sometimes.

Sissoko looked the part today amoungst a midfield 5 that totally dominated the game agianst last season's 7th best team in the prem so lets not get too carried away with the criticism of particular players (I.E. Morientes, Alonso etc.......

I have to say Dalglish, we did play very well, but having that many chances you have to take at least one. id have been very happy with 1-0.

i dont see much improvement from last season, we need to be winning these type of games if we have any chance of winning the prem, im sure chelsea or arsenal would have won that game in the second half, we seriously need to sort things out. Zenden was poor AGAIN, ive always said hes an average player, he doesnt solve things on the left of midfield, he slots in and does an average job, thats it. i think we should play riise and warnock on the left and let them develop their partnership. Morientes is never gonna cut it in the prem EVER. i thinks its funny that as soon as he goes off we put crosses into the box??? WTF cisse cant header to save his life and had two opportunities in the air....why do this when morientes is off i cant understand, not that i have the confidence in him to finish them anyway, he isnt as good in the air as everyone was saying, he hasnt any strength and just gets pushed over alot of the time, he really needs to toughen up.
and by the way, we should be judging this early on in the season, and saying 'i have confidence in the boss' isnt going to do anything. i have confidence in Rafa but not in some of the players, and for Rafas tactics to be productive we need the players that can perform these tasks.
It was an average performance, much of the same as last season just couldnt finish teams off, and i honestly cant see us in the top 3 this season. Now you can bite my head off at the end of the season if im wrong, but i know i wont be.

Get of your high horse for a couple of minutes.

I really don't feel like responding to some ridicilious points you've made because I've already stated certain things on what you said  in this thread earlier

One game played and it's a disaster. ???
