LIVERPOOL VS EVERTON - FA cup 4th round Sunday 16.00pm ko

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby NiftyNeil » Sun Jan 25, 2009 10:04 pm

I thought we played competently today, but competently isn't enough. We need to be a lot more zippy about our play. It was very easy to defend against us because we gave them too much time to get into position and defend well. Saint's right when he talks about Kuyt slowing down our attacks, and Babel just wasn't at the races today.
Here's some food for thought though. While we struggled to break them down today, and last week with a 4-4-2 formation, I thought there was an option to switch to a 3-4-1-2 formation. Everton are pretty toothless up front, so why use 4 defenders? I thought we could of played with three centre backs towards the end of the game, the same midfield with Gerrard operating freely between the midfield and Torres & Keane. Just a thought.

But barring any late scares or knocks the team will be
Reina
Arbeloa Carragher Skrtel Dossena
Kuyt Alonso Mascherano Babel
Gerrard
Torres

And also the BLUESH!TE team for tomorrow.

I know there's as well, not that it will make much difference.

Howard
Hibbert
Jagielka??
Lescott
Baines
Anichebe
Osman
Castillo
Neville
Piennar
Cahill

Not sure on the spellings but that's there team. Even though I am not a massive Rafa fan, I fancy us to give them a good hiding tommorow.

We'll see , be interesting if they get it right this early on . :;):  :D

Keep me eye out for this lad ,spot on again . :nod

Amazing that fans can announce both teams exactly a day before the match!

Gedo seems to have done that a load of times.

He is supposedly getting the team news off a relative of a player. Puts a question mark against Rafa only telling the players the team an hour before games though doesn't it ?

Our problem is very clear. We don´t Know to play against deep defences because our game is TOO DIRECT. As i said before, when you play so direct "you can win games but you can´t win a league title".

It´s the same problem of the last years, we draw against small clubs that play with deep defences, we don´t know to play a creative football with plenty of combinations and between lines game (like Manchester United).

That´s key to beat teams like Stoke, West ham, Fulham, Everton, ect at home.

I swear rafa's plan is to buy all the best players in world then bench them so he has worlds most exspensive ar.se radiator in the world.

I wouldn't call keane, dossena, riera as the best players on the world...... but hey...thats beneitz. Now u know why i want mourinho....  :p  (time to hide....heheheh).

see this is problem in this forum to many smart ar.se that can't read or use there motor part of there brains , rafa plan is to buy as in hasn't yet , IE why he wants control over the transfers get a grip you sorry excuesses for humans !

We have a great middle in the field from defence to attack but we lack top wingers I been saying this now for years.

Since we lost barnes with never replaced him.

Now I know alot of you will say how can you replace a legand like Barnes well you can't simple.

But you can bring in players they pull players wide and out os posistion.

We lack pace , passion maybe but its hard to have passion when deep down you don't believe you have the players to open gaps.

All you can do is hit stright meeningless balls and hope you get there players under pressure to make mistakes but as we keep drawing and showing little in attack teams will fancy there chances more and more when they play us.

Now alot has been said about kuyt and babel and lets face it they are no wingers tho they try they don't have the skill sets to do a job out there.

Many a time we have seen they find it hard to take on 1 players just to get a cross in yet rafa keeps playing them.

I sometimes wish he would even just setup a real 4-3-3 at least then we could have 3 on 1 positions on the other teams full backs and might just be able to crush teams with pure numbers.

But no he keeps things central and predictable , alot of people blame the players , ok this is sometimes fair but trust me on this most of time its due to how we are setup and told the most important thing is defence.

Also another point why does rafa favor the 2 DM (or holding midfielders) over 1 DM and 2 AM one can only guess he believes most games are won due to midfield dominance.

Ok maybe that is right but Its very rare also to see a team play well with out using the width of the pitch of useing the wide players to pull the center backs over before cutting or switching the play to find some one in space.

I feel rafa has no idea how to attack in english game i think this confuses him and I think he never will learn in a 10000000 years.

Its beyound him just as it was ramos and many other over seas managers.

there is no doubting his defensive coaching thats for sure but to play attractive / attacking football no rafa isn't there for me.

we need a new manager with new ideas and is in touch with how to break down teams as this great defence we have is being wasted on the lack of attacking options we have.

I feel  a lot more optimistic playing at goodison than Anfield,Torres will be fitter have more space because they will have to attack more and we will come out of our mini slump were in.

I,e just a bit of positiveness for a change.
