KENNY: LEAGUE IS NOT OVER
Jimmy Rice 20 December 2006
Kenny Dalglish claims the Reds can get back into the title race if they continue the form shown in recent weeks.
The Kop legend admits his former club has a mountain to climb in the Premiership but insists there is still a long way to go.

"In the Premiership we go from strength to strength and now have to be regarded as the form team in the country," Dalglish told LFC Magazine.

"Both top sides are dropping points, or look like they might, so we have to retain a positive outlook.

"I'm not going to make any outlandish statements, but so long as we keep winning games and scoring goals we'll be a danger to anyone.

"With the big three to come to Anfield in the New Year, we might still have a lot to play for in the league, certainly more than some people are suggesting."

Dalglish believes the form of Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt has been paramount in Liverpool's upturn in fortunes.

However, he reckons the most impressive performance during the 3-0 demolition of Charlton came from Welsh striker Craig Bellamy.

"The movement and attacking verve at Charlton were both superb, and I felt it was encapsulated by Bellamy.

"His movement was excellent and he gave the Charlton defence water on the brain. They couldn't get near him."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with every word the Legend says. If we keep this run of wins up, perhaps even get 4 or more points out of the top 3 matches at Anfield, I believe we can catch up to Sh!tski and Manure.

I mean it's been done before if i recall correctly. I think Dalglish was the manager for that season and we was dozen or so points behind  ??? If anyone can correct me would be great and also what your opinions are on the matter?

No I don't agree. Both Chelsea and Man Utd have to slip up real bad for us to catch them and we have to win every single game from now on.

I can't see that happening. We'll drop points and so will Manure and Chavski but not enough for us to catch them.

Don't get carried away because we've trashed the likes of Wigan,Charlton and Fulham. We are expected to beat them every year, when we start beating Manure,Arsenal and Chelsea we will win the league.

We missed our chance for a title challenge with our start to the season.

We have a chance but a very slim one. We need a run of wins with Chelsea and the Mancs drawing or even losing quite a few. 3 draws = 2 defeats so we dont necessarily need them to lose games just draw a lot. The main thing is we need to keep winning and worry about where we are in the league come Easter.

We have a few tricky fixtures coming up after the Watford game, we may have a better idea after those. If we win at Blackburn and Spurs and beat Chelsea at home..........? At the moment I think we should just concentrate on Watford and take one game at a time.

Nice words by Kenny but unfortunately i feel they are a bit optomistic!

Of course its easily possible mathematically but common sense would tell you that Chelsea and UTd will not drop as many points in the post Christmas half of the season.
Say if we go on a run and take 3 points from all our remaining games, home and away its possible but highly, highly unlikely!

What LFC have to do is learn from our last 2 starts in the league...We will never be up there if we are not up for it from the first game!

In fact the only reason there is air between us and the other two is that they start the season running and we take time to find our feet...from now to season end we will match them both points wise we did last year!
We can live in hope but im resigned to the fact that 3rd will do us this term!
Im also resigned to the fact that the manager and players have had enough of playing catchup and come the start of next season we will see a different Liverpool..we will hit the ground running too!

We've been saying that for quite some time now.

We've been saying that for quite some time now.

Its true though...There aint a huge gulf between us and the other two like some pundits tend to portray! I find it patronising and disrespectul the way they make Chelsea and Scum out to be the high and mighty of the EPL...and we are like just Liverpool the best of the rest.

I definately cant see us winning the league, but Im sure the gap between us and the leaders will be much smaller by the end of the season, hopefully around 5-6 points or so. We've played our hardest fixtures of the season already so the only way is up. Lets just build up some momentum and carry our form from the league to the Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup and Im sure by the end of May we'll all be saying it was a successful season.

i disagree with kenny unfortunately, our chance has gone this season! we had a bad start to the season n now its an up hill struggle for us.

i very much doubt that manure n chelski are gonna drop enough points to leave us in contention for the premiership crown. as said in the above posts we're gonna have to win every game from now on and even take points from the leaders to catch em, which unfortunately is very unlikely (sorry to be so negative).

third place?..........yes of coarse we will and the gap will be a small one but to claim top spot.........highly unlikely!

not completely agree with what mr. kenny says but back him keeping saying such, it's always important to have encouragements from his alike for the team spirits. and i firmly believe we'll only get better for some reason
1. we still have chance to compensate missing points by beating arsenal, manure and celski home. not only points will be collected but also moral boost.
2. our key players displays were very disappointing at the earlier of the season, and it's now seems to be lots better.
3. our injured players, mainly in sissoko, are prepared to be back in business again.
4. rafa begins to find his standard starting eleven
5. the squad has also discover the missing balance particularly between defense and forwards (cmon it's not often to get 4-0, 4-0, and 3-0 in a row; big score with clean sheet)

and one thing i agree with mr. kenny; true that the league has not over yet, it will be over by may 2007.

Kenny is a true Red and hsi passion for us is undiminished even though he has left us so many years ago...only a true fan, who happens to be famous, would say this and know that his opinions would be printed in the media.

Sadly, the reality of things is that we are a bit too far, and with Chelsea (though poorer in footballing form this year) having such a deep squad with more than adequate quality, I really don't see them dropping enough points for us to catch up and overtake them. Manure may prove me wrong but they are more likely to drop points over the coming months but then the gap to us as it is now is big enough to cushion them when they go through a lean spell.

Wise words from Manhattan...simple but straight to the point. That's the way it should be done.

King Kenny likes a drink but that one is madness. We can go on a run & all the major players are yet to visit us but to make up that sort of lead would mean that both Manure & Chavski must collapse & to be fair I cant see either doing that.
