Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby akumaface » Fri Sep 03, 2010 9:42 am

There is no doubt that he handled the whole situation poorly. But what can I say. He is a footballer. That's the way most act these days. I mean his wages was 30k a week  in LFC but now 85k in Barca. He won't admit in public he is for the money but I understand.

As a footballer, he was immense and very good in what he does. I mean team can adapt to different playing style but you need to have the right style of player. He was very important to our formation. People may overlook his contribution because most people probably thinks as long as you have the determination, any player can do it. But it is not as easy because his timing, fitness and marking is just as difficult to do as a skill player would with dribbling, shooting etc. I mean Kaka can't do what Mascherano does and vice versa. Just because he is a defensive player doesn't mean he is overrated. But I can't force everyone to like him since people tends to appreciate skillful player that looks good.

The fact that Barca wanted him say someething about Mascherano. YOu don't see Lucas wanted by them :D . Anyway, Mascher pis.ses most LFC fans including myself but now that after couple of days, i don't feel as bad since we found an adequate replacement in Mireles and kind of exciting to see how everything will mesh. Who knows, we might play better than expected once everybody is back. Keep our fingers crossed.

Mascherano is gone.  Sold.  No longer a LFC player.  Everything that could be said has been said and it's probably time to shut down this thread and forget the whingey brat who spoilt his reputation forever with this fan by refusing to play for the club and acting like an ungrateful, childish git.  It's moving on time.  Mods, can we close this now?  We could discuss some LFC players maybe?

Apparently Mascherano was disappointed that Rocky29 never idolised him they way he idolised Aquilani, so he became dissillusioned and he subsequently pissed off....

Thats what all the fuss was about..

i guess you must have missed the bit about him accepting a pay cut to help the move happen. whatever the reasons behind him going, and i think there are a few, money almost certainly wasn't one of them.

this so called "pay cut" does not exist as either way in reality, it is a significant rise in his salary.

He is the best player in the world in that position end of story. Essien is NOT a holding midfielder, hes a box to box midfielder in the Roy Keane or Stevie G circa 2004 mould, Mikel is the DM at Chelsea in that he sits deep and lets the more attack minded players do their thing without worrying so much about being countered. Didi Hamann did a similar job but also chipped in with the odd 30yd scorcher because he was hot sh*t from distance.

Barca are going to be a phenomenon this season, if nothing else it will be something to watch on a Saturday night in rather that bloody X Factor!

I agree with Ciggy, I honestly believe there will be many games this season where we will ask ourselves how differently it could have been if Masch was on the pitch. A player like him is vital against the better sides in the league

If you didn't know better though Greavsie, you'd think we'd won the title by 15 points last season not finished in SEVENTH PLACE. We had Masherano all last season against the better teams and I don't recall us getting many points against them. We also had Lucas, who some on here will tell you is a player waiting to happen, and we lost NINETEEN MATCHES.

We weren't unlucky, nor can it blamed on other areas of the pitch exclusively. The central midfield area was completely disfunctional, and while it's probably true to say that at what he does, the only thing he does, Masherano is one of the best around, it's also true that most other holding midfielders do other stuff as well.

It simply isn't true to say Essien isn't a holding midfielder because he plays box to box. He is actually a holding midfielder who ALSO plays box to box, at the same time so to speak. So does Gerrard when he plays in there, so did Keane.

All last season we carried two central midfielders who's job it was to snuff out the opposition. Not only did they contribute nothing whatsoever other than that, they didn't even manage to perform their role efficiently.

Pure holding midfielders who do absolutely nothing else are a white elephant in modern football IMHO. If Masherano is going to play regularly for Barcelona, he is quite simply going to have to play much much better than he has done for us for a very long time. As for Lucas, forget it.

I agree with most of what you say Mick. I'd rather have a more balanced player in the middle of the park (like Ireland :D ) and hopefully Miereles can be that player

If he can have a decent defensive side to his game as well as be a good threat to the oppos defence then I for one look forward to him and Gerrard in the middle. It's all ifs and buts until we see him player though. Hopefully Masch won't be missed but on paper, for now, he is IMO

or we may think lucas carried mash during games and that lucas is a far better player than we first thought.

I've never questioned his talent, only his commitment in the late stages.  The way he left the club has left a bitter taste in the month but I won't deny he was a good player.  Still, had you told me at the beginning of the summer that we were definitely going to lose one of Masch, Gerrard or Torres by the end of the transfer window, this would have been the outcome I hoped for.  Quite simply, he's replaceable--the other two are not.

To be fair he was sulking the first half of last season due to having to come back to Liverpool.
