Am I taking it that posters actually want rid off Mascherano .... and genuinely think we will be better off without him ???

I think some of the posters just know that Masher, no matter how good a player, is detrimental with the squad with his whining and wanting to leave, so would be best for all if he just f*cked off

Not exactly but he wants to leave, that much is clear, so my feeling is that we'd be best to get as much money as we can for him and move on without him.

I'm torn because HE made it clear he doesn't want to be here, and last year was not only a bad season for Gerrard but Masc as well.  Add to that the sulking he did at West Ham before the transfer happened and I would say he needs to move on.  If the Mascherano of 2 seasons ago turns up, I'd be for him staying of course.

Am I the only one who thinks Hleb & 15m is a great deal? Imagine Hleb playing RM and having Kuyt for tough away games, and to bring on as a sub to retain a lead :)

I think Masch is worth 30m, and I wouldn't pay 15m for Hleb so I dont think that it meets our valuation.

Besides, we need a striker more than anything in my opinion.

I agree.

We need a striker now, we needed a striker the last season, and the season before. Torres can't play 60 games a season.

Hleb's a good player, but as you correctly point out we'd not only lose value in a swap deal, which is quite often the case, but we'd also be getting a player who would be useful but isn't a priority. He's also 29, so any valuation in excess of £12m for him would be too much. He's only ever moved for like €15m according to wikipedia, so I'd prefer it to perhaps be a part of the deal but fees negotiated as separate issues ie we agree a fee for Mascherano, we agree a fee for Hleb.

Involve Bojan Krkic and I'd be more interested.

I like Hleb, but we have enough depth (in numbers and and in quality) for his position. For me, he is too similar to Benayoun, who was deemed surplus to requirements.

Realistically we could never keep a quality back up lone striker happy playing behind Torres. We need more players in the Jovanovic/Babel mould - players who like that lone striker role, but can play wide if Torres is starting.

Personally, I'd like to see Jovanovic play up front (when Torres is not) if we don't strengthen further.

After watching him today you would NEVER have guessed that he wanted to be put on the transfer list

Hodgson doesn't want him to go, he knows he has a good player in Mascherano, unfortunately he wants out
