Where as I'm confident he won't be - Lucas has time to develop more on his hands - yes Poulsen has experience but not of the prem and it's a different ball game . We will revisit this and if masher leaves then there is a place for Poulsen if Masher stays then we have wasted money better spent on a striker IMO .

Why do the same posters seek to ridicule benny almost everytime he posts? It gets a little tiring having to read the lad defending his right to have an opinion against the likes of kewel and mick in every thread.
If you dont agree why not explain why? Thats why we are here is it not? Instead of replying with these
If we could all try and act our age there would be a hell of a lot less sh!te to wade through.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

Masch did very well yesterday. I hope he stays. Gerrard also had a very good game tactically if not offensively. We managed to retain our shape even when we're down 10 men thanks to gerrard and masch and was in control of the game, until agger went off for a while dazed. I thought Lucas for masch was a bit unnecessary considering masch and gerrard were in complete control. If we didn't make that sub, we could have replaced agger with Aurelio and might not have let arsenal back in the game.

Apparently Masch tweaked something in his thigh, mate.  I think Roy said as much in his post-match interview.

If that's the case, we're just feckin unlucky... :(  could have been 3 points and a major boost for morale.

Our moral should still be high after a wonderful team performance yesterday. Certainly higher than what it was before the game.  :)

Mascherano was awesome yesterday. He was all over the place and was MOTM IMO.

I think it's inevitabe that he will go during this transfer window and I will be sad to see him leave. If Roy can somehow manage to keep him beyond the window then our chances of doing well are greatly enhanced. If he was to stay for the season then, given he will have 1 year left on his current deal, he will become less valuable but if he was to play a part in us securing a top 4 spot then I would take that and trade in the difference between selling him now and in 12 months time.

Those who have questioned the signing of Poulson are off their trolley. For years we fans have bemoaned the fact that we lack any strength in depth. Already we are going to see the need for cover in MF as Joe Cole is suspended. Assuming Mascherano is still here I expect him to be joined in CM by either Poulson or Lucas with Gerrard playing a more advanced role off a lone striker.

Over the course of the season we will need 2-3 players for each position; something we have not had before. The spine of the team is where this is most important IMO. Poulson is a sensible signing. Time will tell as to how big a part he has to play with a lot hinging on what happens with Mascherano.

I absolutely get the point that another striker is required and I am sure that Roy knows this and will be doing the necessary to bring another striker in.

It is good having strength in depth but we needed it in more crucial areas than CM - we had more than enough cover there yet we are still playing a CB at LB and we still have no quality cover up front - both areas we are far far far far weaker at this moment than CM.

7 players for two positions is over the top .

Agreed. We are a bit overloaded in CM but we are potentially overloaded with players that Roy maybe doesn't fancy. I am not sure he fancies Aquilani and I wouldn't be surprised if he is sold during this window. I think it's inevitable that Mascherano will go so then we'd be looking a bit light in CM. Add to that the fact that Joe Cole is now suspended and the depth in numbers is required.

its not really 7 players for 2 positions though is it, benny? we're talking about different specific roles and positions and not the midfield in general. for out and out DMs we now have mascherano and poulsen, and if mascherano gets the move he's angling for we have just poulsen. in the other genuine CM role we have gerrard, lucas and spearing. in the genuine AM role we have cole and aquilani. so in an ideal world, with the players we have at our disposal we should be playing mascherano (or poulsen) as the DM with gerrard or lucas (obviously it should be gerrard) alongside or slightly advanced of him to be more of a playmaker with licence to get into the opposing box. spearing should only feature in an injury crisis or early league cup games. then as AM we have cole with aquilani as back up. of course, there are also other ways in which we could distribute these players acording to circumstances.

instead of being over populated, to me it looks like we have a good set of players and possibilities in there.

Interestingly enough, Mascherano is not as wanted by Barcelona as we could expect. Apparently the club wants to sign him up, he has all the blessings of Lionel Messi, but Guardiola isn't very convinced of wanted Javier, according to Marca.

Which is good news, because Mascherano is a top midfielder, and if we don't have him, Poulsen is precisely the perfect replacement for him.

I hope Javier stays, and if he has to dump his wife, then let him do it.

Sure we would get less money if we sell Masch next season (due to his contract expiring) but if we can somehow manage to keep him this season and this helps us to finish in the top 4, it will be worth much more than few extra quids we can get now.

I think the same. Attracting another top midfielder will be easier if Liverpool plays CL next season.

If he is a 'mercenary' he's a professional mercenary, he had another good game in a red shirt yesterday.
Football is a relatively simple game and Roy knows it ;)
