Nanny its money spent anyways... we had 5.5mill in the bank from the crouch deal... its not like they were gonna rob us for the money and we just made sure they wouldnt or anything like that... dossena being sold would have also brought money into the bank.. say both combined add up to 12mill... now Johnson costs 18 mill and say Silva :p costs 20mill.. we either use that 12mill we have in the bank to pay valencia or we use it to pay portsmouth... thats how i see it anyways...
oh by the way ... who the hell is bob?

alright Dawson.....

If you would have asked me the beginning of last season I would have set get rid.  I personally wanted a typical out and out winger to take people on.

But you can't argue with his goal tally last season so for me the lad deserves his place in the side.

Yeah baby! You have to look hard but tucked in amongst all the shíte are positive comments.

Even the negative comments seem to be simply on the fee, not the player, which really once the pen has been put to paper is pretty much a moot point.  I think it'll be a great addition in football terms.

No use crying over it really, at least until the end of the summer.  If Johnson is the biggest signing and that signing has kept us from acquiring Tevez or Silva or Villa (pipe dream),or some other top class attacking player, then it was a poor decision.

But for right now I don't see how a final verdict or conclusion could possibly be drawn.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

2. for 18mill we would have gotten a very good attacking player... the likes of Sneijder, Mancini, DiMaria, Joaquin, Maxi Rodriques, Arshavin?, Hleb, Ben Arfa, Cazorla, Mutu, Capel, Navas, L.Fabiano...etc
now add 10mill to that and you're talking the likes of Silva, Teves, Etoo and so on... funny how 18mill is nothing to some... yea whatever !

3. Evra, cole, clichy and Sagna... how much were they bought for ? where they all big players when bought by their current clubs ? name a fullback in world transfers history who cost similar or more money and was of similar quality to glen johnson ? the likes of Zambrotta, Srna, Rafinha, Sagna, Lahm Miguel... is Johnson better than any of the above ? would/did any of them cost that much ?

Some good points on the fullback front and it's hard to disagree, it's a lot of money, I liked the Russian RB Anyokov (or whatever his name is) and i'm sure he would have been available on the cheap cheap.

As for the middies, Sneider, Ben Arfa and Mancini are all decent shouts, the rest of them read a bit like a champ manager scout search and i must admit i haven't seen enough of them to have an opinion. I don't think Hleb would come (or be sold), I haven't seen anything of Navas, Capel, Cazorla, Di Maria or Fabiano (assuming you have?) and as for Arshavin (don't get me started!) I do like Silva.

Not sure E'to is an option, I'm not sure he'd come and play second fiddle to Torres, Tevez would have been nice but even if he wanted to come i don't think we would , could or should match the wage offer he gets from City.

Why are you sure the Russian defender would have been cheaper and how do you know he would adapt to the premiership??

You lot are really starting to :censored: me off now. We have just signed a great young England intrnational player for the going rate, yes it actually is, and yet even before the lad has officially signed or kicked a ball you are hacking away at him and Rafa, it's fecking bizare it really is.

Also how the hell do you guys know what kind of transfer budget Rafa has???

Right back has been a problem position for years, and Arby was never the answer, if Glen can do a job for us and judging by the fact that Capello has faith in him and also the bits I've seen him play for Pompey,I feel confident he'll be a tremendous signing.

I get accused of being negative on this forum but fecking hell I am not even close to some of you doom mongers.  :no  :no

Not sure how much of that is aimed in my direction? I'm not sure that the Russian defender would have been a cert in the EPL, just said I liked him is all, and if you read my previous posts on Johnson you will see that I rate him very highly. As I said in a previous post, if you compare his price to the fee Chelsea spent on Bosingwa last year the deal actually stacks up pretty well. I'm glad we've signed him, just a bit miffed that we didn't buy him last summer or in January. I'd like to see the manager grab a real bargain now and then and he might need to start with our next signing.

the price for Johnson is very high and there is no getting away from that, but posters claiming he should and could have been got for £8-9 million (at this present time) in the current climate need a reality check, personally I would have expected somewhere in the region of £12-13 million. the fact Johnson is going to be working with the game's best defensive coach is a big bonus.

If Rafa can gather the funds for a forward who can play across the front four positions we'll be in pretty good shape for next season.

I'd still love us to go in for Micah Richards. The lad was commanding a fee of £25-30 million 18 months ago but his stock has really fallen this past year. I still think he's got bags of potential and I reckon City would let him go for a considerably lower price if a decent bid came in. and that's what I mean about picking up a bargain, taking a player who has the talent at a time when they are at their best value for money.
