Given thinking of st. james exit - Good move for lfc?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given is thought to be eyeing a move away from the Tyneside club.

Reports in England have suggested that the Republic of Ireland number one is becoming increasingly disillusioned with the form of his defenders this season.

The Magpies, along with bottom club West Bromwich Albion, have conceded more goals that any other side in The Premiership and the 28-year-old seems ready to make a fresh start after more than seven seasons at St James' Park.

Despite having two-and-a-half years left on his Newcastle contract, Given is thought to be keen for manager Graeme Souness to accept a suitable offer for his services from other interested parties.

Premiership rivals Manchester United and Arsenal are thought to be interested in luring the Irishman away from the North East, and it remains to be seen if Newcastle can satisfy Given by convincing him that his future remains on Tyneside.

One player that could arrive at St James' is Maccabi Haifa midfielder Yaniv Katan, with the Israel international set to be available on a free transfer in the summer.

The 24-year-old can play on either side of midfield and is thought to want a move to English football.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have been told that they must pay French side Le Havre £60,000 for the highly-rated teenager Charles N'Zogbia.

The Magpies upset their French counterparts when they lured the 18-year-old to Newcastle in the summer, despite the player being on an education contract at Le Havre.

A court has now ruled that The Magpies will have to pay Le Havre the five-figure sum in order to keep him at St James'.

Don't know about Given, he'd cost a nice few quid but is a top keeper. One bloke I would certainly look at from Newcastle is Olivier Barnard. Last year of his contract, probably free and in my view developing into one of the best left-backs in the Premiership.

Barnard is a very good player, but like a lot of Newcastle players, he comes with a bit of an attitude.

Shay Given is a top class keeper who is occasionally made to look bad by a dreadful defence in front of him.

our weakness is in other parts.

Given is an excellent keeper but we have other areas that need strengthening. We are ok in the goalie department.
