We're dragging ourselves out of the mire, and what I found really surprising is that there is not a peep from the press (from what I've seen) regarding our recent resiliance and collecting 20 points out of the last 23, which is solid enough form. But what is more important is that we are slowly starting to look like our old selves, though I'd say we're currently performing to only half of our potential at the moment. The main thing is, we're recovering, and it only highlights the absolute stupidity of those that hastely called for the manager to be sacked when we were at such a vulnerable and dangerous situation. The silence is defeaning. I wonder what Ronny Whelan et al have to say now.

we're fooked, simple as. We won't be near the other three next season either. Right now I just can't see things getting better before they get much worse
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

It was over a few months ago. Problem is with some of you lot is that you build unrealistic expectations, and as soon as it becomes obvious to all that these expectations are nothing but blowing smoke up your own ar$ses, you spit the dummys and cry foul. The realistic amongst us realized fourth was gone with our current state of away form ages ago. If you seriously thought we wouldn't drop points in our last 8 fixtures or so, then your head's further up your hole more so than I give credit for.

I dont think its unrealistic for fans to expect us compete for fourth slightly better than we are.
Our away form this season is pitiful, embarassingly bad.

We don't deserve fourth. We've been utterly sh*te the whole season.

Yeah, but you didn't quote me on the post after that. Few weeks ago I gave up the ghost on it. It's buried somewhere in this thread or another one.  :lookaround

Am sorry but how can you back the manager but say that we dont deserve fourth ?
Are you meaning that we are not good enough or do you agree that the manger has not got the best out of the players he has this season ?

Wrong. I'm of the opinion that the side is good enough to get fourth, but has failed the fans and manager massively. I've said it before a dozen times, that everyone in the club has to take a share of the blame for what has happened this season. It is not all Benitez' fault. We haven't been good enough. Simple as that.

Fair enough mate. I didn't think it was an unrealistic expectation a couple of months ago, or even a matter of weeks ago when we were only a point behind spurs, games equal. It was the Wigan defeat that really fecked us over. Before then it required a solid run - the type we went at the start of 2010. That defeat meant we had to make up the points elsewhere, starting at Old Trafford. We lost that, too. That period was the biggest turning point in the challenge for fourth as Spurs went on to open up a four point gap which still exists, except we have one less to play, while Man City have pushed even further ahead by hitting a bit of form themselves.

It's the remaining games from the other teams and the fact that our away form all season has been extremely poor is the defining reason why I gave it up upon looking at the league table prior the United match. Draw or lose that game and it was more or less over, even if mathmatics dictated otherwise, which most people seem to have went on, even the most optimistic, and I'm as optimistic as they come, but that away form just didn't improve. There are also games which I expect us to either draw or even lose in our last 5 games, particularly the one against Chelsea. It's just five games, and any other year I'd say it's possible, but when was the last time we strung five games together in the league this season? We'd need championship winning form to do it and a massive f*ck up on City, Spurs, Villa's part also. It's gone.

YOU LOT!!
ffs lad, listen to yourself
Being unrealistic about finishing fourth!
Its you who needs to pull your own head out of your a-rse.
ANY half decent manager would have us comfortably in there.
The ONLY reason we are not going to make it is because of your hero Rafa
The fkn idiot was in fine form again today with another master class in how to throw a game away

Idk guys but I still think that it aint over yet.Either this game or the Chelsea game, sooner or later we would have get a bad result. Now all we have to do is beat Chelsea :D.Seems hard and unreachable, but it is still possible. All I can say is that we should still have hope for our team, and you should all know that it's not over until it's over.

I actually still think we can do it, quite simply because Spurs, City and Villa aren't actually very good. Spurs got tanked 3-1 at Sunderland with the Home team missing two penalties, so they are hardly World beaters in my book. Villa got beat 7-1 in their last league game but one, while City can get beat Home and Away by Everton, as well as dropping points anytime anywhere.

This group of Liverpool players, if properly managed, would be well clear of all those teams in my opinion. Despite the chronic displays of mismanagement which we are now seeing on a weekly basis, I still think we'll have enough quality to capitalise on the inevitable feck ups those three will make. If Rafa stopped trying to be a tactical genius and just picked his best team and went for it, I'm pretty sure we'd get there.
