Liverpool and Chelsea will lock horns in Europe for the fifth year running following this morning's Champions League quarter-finals draw.
Quarter-final draw:
Villarreal v Arsenal
Manchester United v Porto
Liverpool v Chelsea
Barcelona v Bayern Munich
First leg to be played on April 7-8, Second leg April 14-15
Semi-finals draw:
Manchester United or Porto v Villarreal or Arsenal
Barcelona or Bayern Munich v Liverpool or Chelsea
First leg April 28-29, Second leg May 5-6
Final (Rome) May 27
Last season's Champions League finalists, Chelsea, will face the 2005 champions, Liverpool, over two legs next month.
Defending champions Manchester United will face Portuguese champions Porto, while Arsenal were paired with Spanish side Villarreal.
Current La Liga champions Barcelona will meet Bayern Munich in the other match.
The stage could be set for a repeat of last year's final, meanwhile, with United and Chelsea being kept apart in the semi-final draw.
United or Porto will face Villarreal or Arsenal while if Chelsea overcome Liverpool in their quarter-final tie they face Barcelona or Bayern Munich for a place at this year's showpiece at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
Liverpool's match up with Chelsea in the last eight sees the Premier League rivals go head-to-head in Europe yet again. Liverpool reached the final in 2005 at the expense of Chelsea under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho who was left seething by Luis Garcia's 'ghost goal' which decided the tie at Anfield.
Rafa Benitez's side again prevailed two years ago, winning a penalty shoot-out to make sure of a place in the final, which they lost to AC Milan - the team they had beaten on penalties to win the competition two years previously.
The odds on Manchester United retaining their crown have come in to 2/1 following this morning's draw. Sir Alex Ferguson's side have avoided Europe's heavyweights by drawing one of the makeweights on paper in Portugal's Porto. The match will bring back memories of 2004, when then Porto coach Mourinho charged up the Old Trafford touchline in delight after a 90th-minute Costinha goal took the Portuguese side through at the expense of the English team.
Arsenal's match against Villarreal is a repeat of the semi-final of 2006, which Arsenal won 1-0 on aggregate after a narrow home success in the first leg. The tie will also see former Arsena favourite Robert Pires make a return to north London.
Latest betting odds (Ladbrokes): Manchester Utd 2/1, Barcelona 9/4, Chelsea 5/1, Liverpool 7/1, Arsenal 8/1, Bayern Munich 14/1, Villarreal 28/1, Porto 40/1
