CL QF DRAW THREAD - Friday 20th March 11.00 GMT

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Owzat » Tue Mar 17, 2009 11:52 am

I'll do another random draw :-

Barcelona vs Arsenal
Bayern Munich vs Liverpool
Villareal vs Man Utd
Chelsea vs Porto

Prefer that one, but set me thinking about how many of the teams have European Cups.

European Cups (Runners-Ups in brackets)

5 Liverpool (2)
4 Bayern Munich (3)
3 Man Utd (0)
2 Porto (0), Barcelona (3)
0 Arsenal (1), Villareal (0), Chelsea (1)

Funnily enough my first two random draws pitted the team with the most European Cups (us!) with the teams with third and second most. 53 European Cup finals, the QF line-up have appeared in 24 between them (out of a possible 106 = 22.64%) If it were most wins against least then the draw would be :-

Liverpool 5+2 vs Villareal 0+0
Bayern Munich 4+3 vs Chelsea/Arsenal 0+1
Man Utd 3+0 vs Chelsea/Arsenal 0+1
Barcelona 2+3 vs Porto 2+0

I'd settle for that

Every Liverpool fan's dream would be for us to tw*t the best teams en route to the final, then batter Man Utd IN the final, without any trouble between the rival fans.

In reality, this will never happen.

If we lose to Man Utd, we will never hear the end of it.

If we beat Man Utd, their fans will get both teams banned for 10 years.

Result of the 1st leg is important, home or away. I think I'd rather play the mancs home 1st leg, try to get a 1-0 or 2-0 win. We play better on the counter, surely it makes more sense to be defending a good 1st leg result than trying to force a win? (Real Madrid game an obvious exception)

if that comes out then it's a complete fix.

Don't worry, fergie has his hands on every FA's balls and that's why he gets good draws.

Is that what you believe? I'd rather have an easy route to the final, rest players for league games when comfortably ahead and let other teams knock the mancs, Barcelona etc out. Beating the best teams may be satisfying, but I'm not getting the vibe that too many on here want the toughest draw - ever!

Whichever team we get, reckon the key is for us to be away in the first leg
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Im hoping for Bayern...they were exciting to watch in the last round but will find it hard to score against the mighty 'pool.

If united draw chelsea i seriously think it could disrupt their premier league tilt.

So fingers crossed!
