CHRISTIAN BENTEKE - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby UvS xR4GEx » Mon Jan 04, 2016 10:45 am

At least Mario tried, he was just technically rubbish at the basics. Benteke is just overated massively in my opinion. His strengths are supposed to be his ariel duels which he's given no evidence of.. and his finishing is dire to say the least. Who would I chose out of the 2? NIETHER!

We need someone quick and mobile upfront.

Was watching the Everton and Spurs game. How I wish we had Lukaku. He ran non stop and caused alot of problems to spurs' defenders. He needs to work on his finishing though. But he would be ideal in a Klopp system IMHO.

Im assuming 179 pages of Rodgers 180 page dossier was dedicated to Benteke.

We all knew it would start and end badly, hes useless to us.

I was surprised when we signed him but he is more than just a big target man. If he responds to coaching and improves his movement and work rate he will be Ok.

Feel a bit sorry for Benteke. He's a good striker who will get goals with a couple of contenders for goal of the season thrown in to. Problem is, you do feel the team has to be built around him to get the very best out of him but unless your a Suarez, that is not going to happen at LFC.

Benteke is never going to be the stand out player at LFC. As an option in the squad to change thing's up sometimes, he is fine (even if it is an expensive option).  But the first choice striker for us has to be someone with good movement,  anticipation, fits in with the intricate play of the likes of Coutinho and Lallana and obviously someone who knows where the goal is. All that is not really Benteke's forte and think it's showing up

Im not a real fan of lampost strikers. From the lot Crouchey was probably the best one. Its difficult to arrange a team around these sort of strikers.

one thing i dont understand is this, rogers inherit carroll who costed us 35m and immediately moved him to west ham at a huge lost, but after 2 seasons spend the similar amount to bring big ben, who plays like carroll, to lfc.
what's the logic in this? and how on earth was it approved by the decisions makers?

God knows mate.  Same rational that saw us splurge 20m on Markovic, only to never play him and send him out on loan.

He was virtually anonymous last night. Not sure if it was entirely his fault, as service to him was again virtually non existent but the fella's gotta let us know he's a least on the pitch.

I don't think some plauers are doing themselves any favours with these type of performances. Benteke is playing for his future, yet last night he seemed happy to be a passenger for large periods of the game.

In fact, the only time I ever noticed him was when he was defending corners.

It's hard to think we paid so much money for him and the young kids like Sinclair, Ojo, Kent ect all outplayed him but a large margin. Really disappointed with him for the last month.

I feel so sorry for him. His performance was pathetic and I wish he would have shown some aggression and passion. The kids ignored him completely in the second half and instead of demanding the ball he looked like he had given up. His one on one at the end summed up his mental state.
I think hes probably too far gone to come back from this...
