I've been reading some comments on twitter from normally reputable sources that Adam should be good to go for the weekend.

It's a hip injury, and like one of you said an impact injury.  That means it's probably sore and bruised, maybe a bit swollen.  So it's just a race against the clock to see if he'll make the game.

I said it in another thread somewhere... but its Murphy's law!

We sell Raul and leave ourselves a bit short and of course someone was bound to get injured...

ahhhh.. and Kenny and co missed that one ... looks like kenny should have signed some of you 'armchairs' to advise him... :Oo:

Just pointing out that it was bound to happen.
I dont think Raul was anything special though.

2 things when it comes to Adam for me... (Before anyone jumps on the whole knee jerk bs, this isnt about the Stoke game )

1) Hes a better player than I anticipated he would be. I think he benefited greatly from Carroll not being on the pitch and started focusing more on playing a possession game rather than the long ball routine I thought he would stick to early on.

2) I still dont think he is being utilized properly. His weaknesses are still there for all to see. In terms of carrying the ball, he offers almost nothing given his limited pace. Hes also somewhat slow in moving the ball from deeper positions when under pressure which further adds to our troubles of building attacks through the middle. For me, he should be played further up the pitch with someone else taking up the responsibility of starting attacks from the back. This season we've seen Henderson trying to provide the support from deeper positions which for me again doesnt quite work. Id rather see Adam and Suarez try to connect higher up than Henderson and anyone else. Could all depend on Gerrard returning given the fact that we are now somewhat short on quality central midfielders but I think its something that Kenny will need to address sooner or later.

Another point is the corners. Why are we playing them short (against Stoke) when we have arguably one of the best corner takers in the league and a side with plenty of height ?

aCe I agree.  Today was Adam's worst performance by far, but it happens.  His passing was abysmal... But we aren't using him where we need to use him.  He has the ability to play some really nice balls.  I'm hoping his hip was still hurting him or something, anything to use an excuse to his performance today, but when he plays well he could really be an attacking benefit.

He played his best for Blackpool in the classic Gerrard position
He looks unsettled and awkward in the middle

He excelled for Blackpool as the foremost player in a 4-3-3. We've never once played that formation under Kenny despite the fact that it suits the players we have (Downing plays on the left of a 3 for England and likewise Kuyt on the right of a 3 for Holland). I don't get the obsession with 4-4-2 when we still don't have an out and out right winger and Suarez tends to drift into wide areas anyway a lot of the time.

He was horrible against Stoke. He should have been subbed. I know Henderson can't take a man on but he should of moved inside with Lucas yesterday, at least the bloke can run and pick a pass albeit simple passes. Our midfield wasn't up to scratch yesterday.

I think he'd be best suited in a 3 man midfield.. at times I think he's really good then at other times I think he's a liability because of his lack of movement.. I still can't get a good read on him to be honest, he has high confidence in himself though which is good.. the problem arises when we face good teams and he has to be smarter in possession.  He can't play the way he did against Stoke against any of the top 4 this season.

He seems to be being asked to be the main man in our midfield which was never the case at Blackpool.
We lack, other than Gerrard, a world class midefielder at the moment for me.

He was the main man at Blackpool though. I think you could argue that he's still got a Blackpool player's mentality, by which I mean he always thinks he has to make something happen when he has the ball rather than playing it simple and letting somebody else take responsibility. At Blackpool everything revolved around him as far as creativity was concerned. Here we've got Downing, Suarez and the likes who can share that burden.

I think it's more of a case that he still hasn't decided what type of a midfielder he wants to be in our team. He seems likes he still playing as if he's caught between two minds. Half of him wants to be like Xabi was and the other half wants to be more attacking. One thing he certainly isn't is a box to box type.
