Barring disaster I see Liverpool progressing.

There is a genuine chance this year of being the first team for years who retains their title. A lot of the big guns have drawn each other, and this can be in our favour.

Benitez and Liverpool have proved that they are currently one of the masters of home and away ties.

Saying that they beat the mancs who were lucky to beat Benfica at home and the same mancs beat Chelsea. Anything can happen but we should get past the Portugese

Hi,

I´m a benfica fan. I just want to wish you good luck. I think benfica and liverpool are part of a restricted group of european clubs with a certain status due to their history.

Correct, I think it was Eusebio who made Benfica great. But that's long ago, while we are now the current holders, are more adapted to the system of the coach, and are a very strong team!

I rspect Benfica, but they were my second pick after Rangers, sorry.

Eusebio is the best portuguese player ever but he wasn´t the only one to built up benfica reputation. He only participate in one champions cup and benfica has won 2 and lost 4 others ( :veryangry ), and the last one was in 1990. I am not sure but beside your great win last year how long weren´t you also in a final? And what if u had lost it? Wouldn´t it be a great team anyway?

But, past is past , and now what matters is that in february and march there will be another clash between two giants of european football, and hopefully it will be 2 great matchs.

We are also adapted to the coach´s system and have great players too. It will be hard for both teams, be sure of that. And if liverpool players and coach also think it will be a walk in the park, then you might have a big surprise in the games.

Its a decent draw but nothing to get cocky about.Everyone was delighted when we drew Leverkusen in 2002 and look what happened.Hopefully Benitez wont let his players fall into any kind of complacency.....Made up for Chelski though :D

I want to see Barcelona tear Chelski apart or at least see each team kick the cr.ap out of each other. NO MERCY Ronni, stick it to them!!

If I am not mistaken, we have met on 2 occassions and on the last one in the 1984/85 season, Kenny Dalglish and a Benfica player got sent off in Lisbon for fighting, the only time Kenny received a red card.

I look forward to the match and I am by no means underestimating Benfica. Your winger (can't remember his name, but not Simao) tore John O'Shea to shreds in the last CL game against Man Utd.

That´s right, great matches between the two teams. I never saw any of them (last one, as you said was in 84/85) unfortunatly but hope to see both of next ones live.

The players name is Nelson , is a defender and only plays in that position when there is no one else (miccoli was injured, so geovanni played as a striker and nelson substituted geovanni). And believe me, he is by far much better when he plays as a defender because he comes from behind in velocity and in that game he, obviously couldn´t do that. If you can try to see some benfica matches until february and you will be amazed by is quality. He only plays in the liga (the equivalent of your premiership) for a year nad a half and has only 20 years old.

I though Nelson was man of the match in the Benfica v Manc game the other day. For one so young he showed some class. Will bear watching when we come up against them.

Good draw, never easy at this stage but we should progress. Make no mistake though, Benfica are the best Portuguese side going around at the moment and their crowd is very good (anyone who saw the Manure game will know what I mean). 2nd leg at home is a real plus.

I'm very confident we'll progress, why is that so many opoosition fans find their way on here to slag us off right before we destroy them in a game eh?

Yes, he was. I learnt that in History at school. Too bad a shot of a Spaniard made him lost his leg some years later in Tenerife, Canary Islands :)

It's good you invented footie Wrighty, Albion (yes, we call you this way when we want to reffer you as the old well known England) and Spain had always some rivalry, it's so nice nowadays this disputes are solved in a football pitch. Let that continue that way forever! Viva Albion!
