CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW 11.00 BST - build up and reaction

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Sabre » Fri Dec 16, 2005 1:46 pm

Hi,

I´m a benfica fan. I just want to wish you good luck. I think benfica and liverpool are part of a restricted group of european clubs with a certain status due to their history.

Correct, I think it was Eusebio who made Benfica great. But that's long ago, while we are now the current holders, are more adapted to the system of the coach, and are a very strong team!

I rspect Benfica, but they were my second pick after Rangers, sorry.

A great draw without a doubt but remember, this is the best clubs in Europe, so we will have to be at, or near our best to beat Benfica. They won't be a push over. Let's not be complacent ladies and gents.  :)

homemsumol, Liverpool-Benfica has had some great European Cup matches in the past. If I am not mistaken, we have met on 2 occassions and on the last one in the 1984/85 season, Kenny Dalglish and a Benfica player got sent off in Lisbon for fighting, the only time Kenny received a red card.

I look forward to the match and I am by no means underestimating Benfica. Your winger (can't remember his name, but not Simao) tore John O'Shea to shreds in the last CL game against Man Utd.

Hi... i'm happy with the result of the draw... but I believe Benfica will win because they want to win... there's a bit of complacency in Liverpool in what comes to the Champs. Lg.. You will throw it away because of that!... You assume it's too easy and that is going to help us... Why not leave your best players at home???

Has any of you ever been to Estádio da Luz? I dare you to come and support your team here... they will need all the support to overcome the INFERNO!

I went there to watch Man Utd and... tears were in my eyes... it's HUGE!!! If their minds (Liverpool players') aren't prepared... they will suffer!

By the way... is this what you want?

That's what is being said in that forum!

The winger that tore o'shea is Nélson, he can play at any position in the flanks, but better on the right side.
As a defender he goes up very easily, he is becoming a very good player, although he doesn't have big height.

Hey guys. I'm a Benfica fan, but with a fair amount of good judgement. We are obviously the underdogs here, but i'm confortable with that. I hope to see 2 great matches of football, with lot's of goals and fair play.

I'm glad it's Liverpool 'cause as i see it, Liverpool is to England kind of like what Benfica is to Portugal, as in the club of the people, the working class. You can correct me if i'm wrong on that one. Anyway, good luck to you guys, at least on your domestic league. :)

While I don't want to disrespect Benfica it is certainly one of the easier draws. I was not impressed by their defending in the group stages and they are not really lethal in attack.

Barring disaster I see Liverpool progressing.

There is a genuine chance this year of being the first team for years who retains their title. A lot of the big guns have drawn each other, and this can be in our favour.

Benitez and Liverpool have proved that they are currently one of the masters of home and away ties.
