With all the praise Rafa has given Carragher these past 2 months can see him getting the captains armband whether Stevie stays or not.
Hes hailed him one of the best CD in england, a real leader and has also said if we had 11 Jamie Carraghers in the team we would win the title.
Hes not wrong there with his drive and determenation he is probably our best player so far this season.
Ive also noticed Rafa praising the other players latelty, which is rightly deserved because we are not a ONE man team, we have some great players.
Hes praised Stevie Finnan, and rightly so hes been great this season for us and as a player hes come on leaps and bounds.
Hes praised Riise, Milan, Garcia all deserved and about time the rest of the team get some limelight, instead of GERRARD all the time.
So Carra for captain next season it will be great for him it will be his biggest wish come true, and he will do a great job of it.
We love you Jamie.
JAMIE CARRAGHER has been hailed as the best centre-back in the land — less than a year after establishing himself in the heart of Liverpool’s defence.
This time last season he was seen largely as a full-back by former Kop boss Gerard Houllier.
An injury to Stephane Henchoz saw Carragher shuffled across the backline.
Now current Anfield chief Rafa Benitez has insisted the England ace is better than the rest in his position.
Benitez said: “At the moment Carra is the best centre-back. He is so consistent. He’s good in the air, quick and a great passer — the complete defender.
“When I arrived I spoke to a lot of the English coaches and they told me he could play in a lot of positions but had done very well as a central defender.
“With Josemi, John Arne Riise, Steve Finnan and Djimi Traore, we decided that was the best place for him. But he made it very easy for me because he’s done well there all the time.
“If you have good players, it is the determination which makes the difference. He has a very strong mind and always wants to win.
“That can be contagious with the effect it has on the rest — you just hope it rubs off on others.”
Carragher’s pairing with Wes Brown in a makeshift defence was one of the few bright spots of England’s woeful 0-0 draw with Holland on Wednesday.
Sven Goran Eriksson had a major headache at the back with Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry and Ledley King all ruled out.
But Bootle-boy Carragher, 27, strolled through the Villa Park friendly without breaking sweat.
Benitez added: “If he carries on like that, then of course he will play more games for the national team, even though there is strong competition. I am sure Mr Eriksson knows what a good player he is.
“Sometimes you have ‘safe’ players, ones you know will always be there, are always dependable and always get 100 per cent from them.
“He has the mentality I like for my Liverpool. If you want to win titles, you don’t only need skilful players, but ones with the right attitude.
“If you had 11 like him, why wouldn’t you win things? That is the difference between players.
“Carra may play very well, OK or average but I don’t remember him having a bad game.”
