Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 7_Kewell » Mon Apr 21, 2014 4:09 pm

I know its early, but....

I've just heard that Liverpool will be placed in Pot 2 along with Juventus, PSG, Benfica, Olympiacos and three other clubs. Here are ALL possible LFC opponents in the UCL group stage from Pot 1: Barcelona, Bayern, Real Madrid, Benfica, Atletico, Dortmund.

And here's a clip of the music, which will be ringing out across Anfield next season  :buttrock

Wow, pot 2? That's fantastic, I thought they'll put us in pot 3.

I thought we'd lost our UEFA coefficient thingy because we've been out of the CL so long.

Pot 2? Pot 3 sounds more lovely and I believe we have less chances of securing a spot in the latter stages against PSG, Juventus, Olympiakos, etc..

Where did you hear that ?

Checking the net all I can find is this article from a few weeks ago that reckons we'll almost certainly be in pot 3 (due to being out of the CL for several years.)

There's no possible way to say now which pot we will be in.

The club coefficient rankings are based on the results of clubs competing in the five previous seasons of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. Considering that only 15 (technically only 13 but i've included City and Chelsea as there's next to no chance of Arsenal catching either) of the clubs of the 32 are confirmed right now.

We are currently 13th out of 15th by coefficient rank. Of those 15, only Roma and Olympiacos have a worse coefficient than us. So for Liverpool to be in pot 2 we would have to be in the highest 16 seeded teams in the draw.

Currently there are 13 of 16 teams in the draw who have a better coefficient. If three more teams with better coefficients than us qualify we would be in pot 3.

As it stands there are loads of teams still competing for CL qualification. But even a quick look shows that there are numerous teams likely to qualify that have a better coefficient that us - Napoli, Sevilla, CSKA Moscow, Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke, Shakhtar Donestsk, Borussia Dortmund, etc

All in all I think it will be highly unlikely we will be in pot 2.

So pot 3 it is then? I could see us being in a group of death with Real Madrid, Juventus, and Roma :D.

Probably, yeah. That's why there's a star and a number next to a few clubs, which indicate in which qualification round they're in. But we'll be getting in pot 3 regardless of what happens, since there's no way Arsenal, Porto or even Zenit would lose their qualifier.

And next season will be the 60th final we won the 5th in 2005 so what about NUMBER 6 in the 60th final. BTW were only 18/1 to win it. Looking through the post I can't find Manchester United.

An interesting look at how much clubs earn from the Champion League.

if we do another Istanbul anywhere up 50+ million euros will be topping up the coffers.
