Luis Suarez today issued the following statement to the club's official website, Liverpoolfc.com.

"It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

"I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife's family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.

Phenomenally gifted ,but sadly just another mercenary/user. When I have more time to reflect I might amend my opinion to take into account his irrefutable
genius, but for now I'm not up for being magnanimous in light of his many disingenuous statements.

As good as he is, I was more gutted when Torres left.

I gut feel is it is right for both parties.

I'm positive the club knew this would happen this summer a while back. I'm sure there's a contingency plan (p.s. Bony isn't it).

if he had not taken another bite out of a player most would be up in arms about this. it was a way to get him out of the club without much fuss, we must of done a deal with him on his new contract and agreed he could go in the summer, we won on this deal no matter what way you look at it.

I think the contingency plan was Sanchez mate, I don't think they expected him to knock us back.
Bony is just a panic buy IMO, and if he comes I don't think we'll be buying another CF, we only play with 1 up front as it is and £20m would be a lot of money to spend on a 3rd choice striker.

Possibly the most stupid thing I've ever read on any football forum !!! Just very surprised it was you that wrote it. Only joking mate. I respect your opinion. I just don't agree with it  :(

Torres's best days were a very long way behind him and I actually thought we did very well to get £50m from 'Chelsea at a time when Torres was performing well below the standard we had become accustomed to. He never fully recovered from his knee injury after being rushed back to play for Spain in the World Cup. Hopefully the same thing will happen with Suarez but I very much doubt it. We are getting an extra £25m for Luis who is regarded as probably the third best player in the world. Torres at the time he was sold was not considered by anybody to be close to that level. Barca have got him Suarez cheaply whereas Chelsea overplayed for Torres.

£200,000 a week off the books. £75m to soften the pain of loosing Suarez. And more importantly I don't have to spend fkg hours defending Luis's somewhat flawed character which has become more difficult every season and next season was going to be no exception.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES LUIS AND GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN THE FUTURE.

63m pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will repeat that so it sinks in 63 million pounds................

The third best player in the world has been sold for a sickening and paltry 63m pounds

I have thrown up in my mouth, Ayre has sold us up the river.

Truly astonishing that no one cares that we have been absoluately mugged here.

Barcelona are laughing their tits off.............Sanchez + 30m = Suarez

Espn is not the best of sources, would be more inclined to believe James Pearce at The Echo who has stuck with the £75 million release fee

Agree with this, the Torres one was the biggest kick in the teeth of them all because he went to one of our direct rivals. Even Owen and Mcmanaman (although we only got a fraction of their market value for them) at least they weren't lining up against us the following season.
It's never great to lose your best player but at least we got big money for him (especially considering his age) and he went abroad and not to another premiership club.

I really hope it is Cardiff.

Even 75m is low compared to what Bale went for last season.

Suarez has been the best striker this club as ever had.. greats like Fowler, Dalglish,  Rush, Torres, Owen more recently were never considered in the top 5 best players in the world.

He will be a massive loss, but after what he did in the WC it will be easier to deal with the loss.

If that WC moment didn't happen we would have fought to keep him and he probably would have been the first ever £100m pound player.

His antics have cost this club millions with the reported fee being £64m.

I wish him and his family all the best at Barca and thanks for last season and the memories.
