Denmark's Euro 2008 Group F qualifier with Sweden was abandoned after the referee was attacked by a fan.

Denmark produced a brilliant comeback as they came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3, but things turned ugly in the closing stages when a supporter ran onto the pitch to attack German referee Herbert Fandel after he sent-off Danish defender Christian Poulsen.

Poulsen was shown the red card for punching striker Markus Rosenberg in the stomach.

A spectator ran onto the pitch toward the referee but was intercepted by Danish players.

However the game was abandoned as the referee and the linesman walked off the pitch following the attack.

The result of the game will be decided after Uefa's disciplinary committee receive the referee's match report, but Denmark are sure to face heavy sanctions for the disturbance.

Earlier in the game Sweden raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Johan Elmander (7, 26) and Petter Hansson.

However, Denmark fought back to draw level with goals from Daniel Agger (34), Jon Dahl Tomasson (62) and Leon Andreasen (75).

The game then descended into chaos when Poulsen was sent-off just before the end of the game for hitting Rosenberg in the Danish penalty area.

Fandel signalled a penalty for Sweden, but before it could be taken, a supporter rushed onto the pitch and struck out at the German official

Fandel immediately blew the whistle and walked off the pitch.

At least two more supporters managed to force their way onto the pitch in the minutes just after the incident and Uefa are set to make a decision on the incident in the next 24 hours.

Great to see agger grabbed a goal.
Nice to see our CL final ref being appreciated.(Karma is a bitch  :D )

The European Championship qualifier between Sweden and Denmark was abandoned at 3-3 Saturday after a Danish fan tried to attack the referee for giving a late penalty.

Danish soccer officials initially said German referee Herbert Fandel had awarded Sweden a 3-0 win, but UEFA later said the result would have to be confirmed by an investigation.

"No decision has been taken," UEFA spokesman Fritz Ahlstrom said.

Denmark had rallied from 3-0 down to level at 3-3 before Fandel sent off Denmark defender Christian Poulsen in the 89th for punching Sweden striker Markus Rosenberg in the stomach.

After Fandel pointed to the penalty spot at Parken stadium, the spectator charged onto the pitch and tried to punch the referee, but was intercepted by Danish defender Michael Gravgaard.

Fandel and his linesmen walked off the field, and Danish soccer federation spokesman Lars Behrendt announced the referee had awarded Sweden the 3-0 victory shortly afterward.

However, UEFA later said the result would be confirmed following an investigation by its disciplinary committee. Danish police said the attacker had been arrested.

"It is a sad ending," Denmark striker Jon Dahl Tomasson told Danish TV. "I can understand that the referee called off the game. This is going to cost us."

Sweden had led 3-0 inside 26 minutes in the Group F match at Parken stadium after two goals by Johan Elmander and another from Peter Hansson.

But goals from Daniel Agger (34th), Tomasson (62nd) and substitute Leon Andreasen (77th) had set up Denmark's unlikely comeback in front of 42,083 fans before the abandonment.

Elmander scored in the seventh minute after Gravgaard failed to clear a high ball into the box.

Hansson doubled the lead from a powerful free kick, before Elmander made it 3-0 with a backheel on Christian Wilhemsson's low cross.

Agger started the comeback by shooting inside Sweden goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson's right post. Tomasson then capitalized on sloppy Swedish defending as he curled his shot over Isaksson.

The Danes heaped on the pressure and Andreasen equalized on low shot from outside the box.

If UEFA confirms the result, Sweden leads the group with 15 points from six games, two more than idle Northern Ireland. Denmark is fourth with seven points from five games.

"The match was a bit too entertaining and got a terribly bad ending," Sweden coach Lars Lagerback said.

The Danish soccer federation (DBU) deplored the attack that ended the match.

"The game will have huge consequences for Danish soccer," Behrendt said. "Denmark is far from a spot in next year's European Championship, and DBU will hit by economic sanctions."

Poulsen apologized after the match for punching Rosenberg.

"It was incredibly stupid," Poulsen said. "It is unforgivable, I have let down my teammates."

The 98th encounter between the Nordic rivals was also marred by violence before kickoff, as Swedish and Danish fans brawled in downtown Copenhagen. About 20 fans were arrested, police said.

how can the ref decide on the score, surely it needs to go higher than him     :D

Technically the mad Danish fan had no cause to be angry because the sending off was fully justified. The Danish player clearly punched the Swedish player. But it was stupid of the ref to abandon the game four minutes from the end merely because of a pitch invader. What's to stop a fan dressing up as a opposition fan to alter the result of the match?

Still, Aggar scored a nice goal (we need to keep this guy for sure) and Riise scored for Norway too!

This happens at the 90th minute of the game (when the ref sent off a danish densenseman) and the ugly danish 'fan' nearly haven't touched the ref. It was 3-3 and Fandel didn't accept to finish the game.

Now the Danes will probably loose the game 0-3, because of one silly supporter.

Of course, the security of the stadium is to blame, but in stadium without fences and the supporters just near the pitch, it's very difficult to prevent such silly actions.

As UEFA will probably declare Sweden winners, what do you think about this ? (i know it will sound silly, but some supporters unfortunatly are...):
Every games of your team you buy the shirt of the opponent and go with their supporters. If, near the end of the match, your team is drawing or loosing, you go on the pitch and attack the ref, then your team wins 3-0 because you're identified as an other team supporter...

Of course, violence against officials should be banned of stadiums, but when it's only 1-2 minutes to go in a big match (Danemark were 0-3 down and had equalised) and you're not injured, as a ref, you've got IMO to fo on the pitch and allow the game to finish.

Erm, there's a relevant fact about the suspension. The ref conceded a penalty against Denmark. So there are two options, give the match to Sweden 0-3, or throw that penalty.

There have been cases in the past in which games have been resumed only for 2 or 3 minutes, but in the case of an aggression, they might decide a Sweden victory.

I preffer a draw, because it's better for Spain, though.:)

God, that referee just can't finish a game can he!  :D

Doesn't play the full three minutes injury time in the champions league final and now buggers off two minutes before the 90 are up in copenhagen.

Bloody Part-timers.

On a serious note though, if this match is awarded to Sweden then the footballing authorities are surely creating a rod for their own backs.

Man, I've found a new person to despise.
This is what the president of Northern Ireland's Football Association,  Jim Boyce said after the game.

"There`s no guarantee the penalty kick would have been scored, I don`t think Sweden should be awarded a 3-0 win.

"I believe the game should be replayed behind closed doors. Obviously the best decision for Northern Ireland would have been a draw and it looked like it was going to be a draw."

How stupid can you get???
1st) it's a 3-3 draw and Sweden has a spot kick and 11 vs 10 men.
2nd) a danish supporter in Denmark's home game gets onto the field and hits out at the ref.

And he says that IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO BE DRAW.
How one eyed and stupid can you get?
And from a president of a football association.
Despicable
