Arne Slot

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

You know what i've probably been Slot's biggest critic on here the past few months but Virgil mentioned something in an interview Saturday which did make me stop and think.
Virgil and the commentator were waxing lyrical about Flo's performance when Virgil said mind you Flo keeps on coming up to me an hour into the game saying he's shattered and he doesn't know how much more he's got left in the tank so he needs to work on his fitness.
I can't tell you the amount of times i've thrown the remote at the telly whenever Arne takes Flo off or Hugo off with 20 minutes to go and the game's in the balance but maybe just maybe the manager knows a little bit more than i do.

If he can pull through for the rest of the season and eventually figure out our best set up and identity then fair play. Personally I have my doubts, not conviced by Slot.

I was reading that this Briggs guy didn't consider himself a specialist set-piece coach and never pretended he was, he joined our backroom staff in a different position but was told at some point that he was going to become our set piece coach.
Rumours abound that he's just a scapegoat

I think Slot will get the season, before the trigger is pulled  on him (and a few others) in the summer.

We are not getting worse, but we’re not improving either.

Hopefully the club is already performing a top to bottom review, because our fall has been entirely preventable.

But the worst hit of all is the quality of the football. It’s $*i*e and has been for some time now.

\ That was pure sh * te I'm afraid..we pass so slowly with no pace on the ball...its a snails pace every time and then to compound the problem we give the ball away with no pressure many times. Anyone know how many times we passed it to their player or into touch  ...felt like 30 plus ...ridiculous...

Slot needs to get a grip of these guys and tell them to pass forward!! ...even in extra time we are pussy footing around at the back sideways and backwards.

I have been reluctant to join the Slot out brigade but if this continues once we have signed a CB and Winger I am changing my stance . What's really puzzling is that from the few videos of Feyenoord I watched when Slot arrived it was front foot high throttle football... he seems to have done a 180 on his playing style...

We are in a vital part of the season now. We are in a massive battle to try and keep in the top 4 and we have to play Arsenal, Newcastle and City in our next 6 games with 2 of those fighting it out for the title.

On top of that the 2 teams chasing us closely have both reacted in sacking their managers for poor form. Do we stick with Arne even though nothings improved since September and risk not playing UCL next season.. or do we cut our losses and sack him now to give us a better chance.

I think he’s been found out. And nothing is going to change or really improve until he’s gone.

He rode the wave of Klopp’s team and has now replaced it with a dysfunctional band of misfits.

Given the huge sum of money he’s spent t, he can’t have too many complaints if he was sacked now.

But who do we bring in? Would probably be better to plan for a summer change and aim for top 4, rather than risk derailing our season by rushing changes now.

I think last year we surprised everyone by winning the title and this year we were everyone’s pick to win again. We spent more than we ever have and went out and brought the best young talent that was out there. We lost a well liked player in Jota just before the season started, the delayed purchase and “bad” karma of Isak meant our best player was not at his best and then we lost a talented young defender who could have pushed Konate (who has played like a player before a free transfer) and failed to get a good defender when the his team pulled the plug on the 11th hour on deadline day. Despite people calling Trent and average player we have seriously missed his passing range which stretched teams. We lost two fighters in Diaz and Nunez and never replaced their intensity and then our legendry Mo Salah because no longer playing for a new contract became average and seemed to lose his ability to track back and help out defensively.

New personnel both on the field and in the dressing room and a new way to play after some of the older players have been playing a set way for a long time. It hasn’t been easy sailing for Slot and I’d certainly give him a chance past this season to get the new players to play in a system he wants, these things take time and I don’t really think its his fault past the buck stops with him because he’s the gaffer, good players are not performing. He has a track record of playing football that pleases the eye so I’m more likely to think the players are not playing like he wants.

I agree. If we sack him now who do we bring in? Best we hope he gets top 4 (or 5) at the end of this season while we work on finding a suitable candidate until then.

LFC were faced with 2 challenges when Klopp left, a smooth transition between managers and a continuation of success whilst replacing the aging old guard.
Slot won the league (Challenge 2) whilst appearing to have transitioned into the manager role (Challenge 1).

It now appears that Challenge 1 has failed as no longer having the Klopp side, he's failed to create a successful style of play / strategy. As a result players have lost their way and have failed to transition into a successful team. Why have we declined from last years confidence to current mid table performers?

As I see it, LFC have failed to achieve the 2 core tasks Slot was brought in to oversee.

If LFC still think he's the right guy then I'd consider bringing James Milner back to the club as assistant manager or something to motivate and lead the squad. (But not as a player).

The real fear here is that the Chavs and United get someone decent in and overtake us. With the football we are playing its a possibility.
Bottom line with slots style is that its easy to play against. He needs reinforcements now in this window and how he gets on with those will be what will make or break him. No one is enjoying the football at the minute and even though we are unbeaten in 9 the games are terrible to watch.

It's an understandable fear but IMO there's simply not too many decent managers available at the moment, if any. Chelsea are about to sign Liam Rossenior, I've no idea who that is tbh. Google says he's the manager of a French side and he finished 7th in the league last season, and he previously managed Hull in the Championship. He might turn out to be decent who knows but  his CV is nothing to write home about. Those are the kind of managers that are available at the moment.

I think both Manure and Chelsea jumped the gun on their managers tbh, especially Chelsea. Maresca wasn't a bad manager imo.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Alonso left Real and came here in the summer.

He’s the wrong fit for Real and will likely get the boot if they fail to win the league.
