Riise had a great game against Man City from a defensive point of view as he kept SWP, a player in a rich vein of form who destroyd Fulham's left flank the previous week, in his pocket for almost the entire game.

He also looked solid in all of the other games I have seen him in.

As Stu and Leon rightly agree (  :D  ) Riise had a shocking 18 months, but definite signs of improvement where there to see at the end of last season and Riise has carried on his improved form into this year.

I'd like to see more of him before making my mind up about him but one or two players always show a dramatic improvement under a new manager and the early signs are there that Riise could be one of them.

considering what JAR has gone through in his personal life in the last year, i.e. a divorce, being called up for national service, it is good to see him getting back to some sort of form. :)

Did Riise get divorced last year?

Did he not get married this summer?

That boy gets around, for a ginger that is.  :D

I agree that he still hoofs the ball a bit too much, he defensive game has improved which is good but I think Rafa has told him and Josemi that defending is their first duty, I think his confidence was deffo knocked by Houllier but on saying that I think that most of the squads was, give him a few games to get used to first team footy and I'm sure his confidence will improve dramatically  :)

Thats my point though, theres alot less hoofing now. He's only doing it when theres nothing on.

There is definitely a lot less hoofing.

18 months ago Riise punts up field were ghastly.

i think alot of the hoofing was down to houlliers tactics, cause they were hoofing the ball up to heskey to knock on for owen, or for owen to run on to, i like the way they're playing pass and move like the old liverpool, but i think riise yes hes improved, i've always liked him as a player, hyppia and riise i reckon are our best defenders and im very impressed with josemi so far too
