John arne riise - Well done lad!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I got sick of him last season.

He was shockingly bad, it carried into this season aswell.

But since the Portsmouth game himself and Steven Gerrard have been plus points. Both look like there attitude and level of performance and ability has gone up to another level. He's faught hard and for me now once again deserves his place at left back.

I've been the first to crisitise Riise over the last few years since the season we finished second and i am happy that after over a year of dipped form he has come back to something like his best.

Hopefully next season he can make that left back spot his own and start scoring goals and making the runs he is capable of aswell as the massively improved defensive side of his game.

I think with himself Hyypia, Carragher, Riise, Finnan and Henchoz the defense is only one player away from being a top class defence and one of the leagues best.

Yep he has been playing well off late. Theres one thing wrong with Riise in my book and thats one off the main things you need to play football, he's not that good at reading the game.  At the moment he's giving 100% effort in, If any half decent player gave 100% in, they would look good in our side at the minute.

Leon there is no need for that kind off remark.  Everyone is intitled to there opinion. I dont expect to get abuse off no marks like you, just for expressing my views.

Back to stu's point you say you think with himself Hyypia, Carragher, Riise, Finnan and Henchoz the defense is only one player away from being a top class defence and one of the leagues best.  Id say we need more pace old boy.  Cause big sammy aint getting no younger and neither is henchoz.  A couple off pacey centre halfs for me.

i've always been a riise fan and i agree that the guy has looked good recently. the year we finished 2nd he was awesome, i think he scored 7-8 goals for a left back. however in recent times he seemed to be constantly bombing forward and not concentrating on his defensive duties enough. now though he seems to have rectified that part of his game. i think with him and finnan, we have two very good full backs.

what we should try is maybe hypia, henchoz and a new fast centre back (dawson) with finnan and riise as wing backs. Then in the middle we play gerrard, hamman and kewel to roam, with owen and cisse up front... now that could work, wed score goals anyways :blues:

we do need a new defender as henchoz is starting to get old and slow.  In fact i'd like to see Mexes AND Dawson come in.

I've been really pleased as well with Riise's latest form. I'm glad he's getting a run of games again cos you certainly can't fault his attitude & committment. There's several supposedly better players than him in the squad who could learn a thing or two from him   :)

Always liked Riise, good character, throw-ins, handled Ronaldo very very well...handles whomever comes down our left flank well,,,,,,,wicked shot,,,,,,

not too shabby i'd say

would like to see more runs from our team,,,,Smicer had some good ones Saturday and created havoc for the manure defence,,,,,once the ball is anywhere near the opposition's box the situation becomes dangerous as Owen is roaming,,,,,

Gerrard's run created the penalty,,,,,,,

More runs,,,,,= more chances,,,,more goals=happy liverpool fans

i really like riise and think he is a good attacking full back, with him and finnan playing full back and i think carragher with hyypia we would have a tremendous back four, carra finnan and riise have really worked hard for the team when available and fit after some bad spells! :)

The full backs just need to get up more. The one critisism i have about Jamie C (and i think hes class) is that he doesnt run up the line enough, and when eh does he isnt the best crosser of the ball. the coaching staff have got to look at this and change things accordingly.. im happy with riise tho, he is a cool lad and deserves more games

Dawson you fool. Sefenders are there to defend. End of.

So if a player is COOL then thats a reason to play him week in week out. TOSS POT
