Darren Anderson of the Mirror suggesting we have knocked back Palace's offer, "LFC insisting they want £30m up front in reply to Palace's new Benteke offer"

Surely we should take the £27m ???

I'm hopeful we can tie up Dahoud, Neves and a left back. That would bolster the squad a lot

of course we're back in the pecking order. we don't have the money or the prestige of Man City, we don't have the success or superstar manager of Man Utd, we don't have the constant CL football of Arsenal, and despite Chelsea also having no european football they still have more money and more recent cache than us.

we have to hope that klopp can repeat his dortmund magic with second string players

I think they're super keen and will pay it. Would be amazing business if true. Benteke has been found out at LFC and I'm amazed anyone is willing to give us our money back

I might be getting my players mixed up here but if it is the lad I'm thinking of he is a bit of an Odegaard type star in the making. If it's the lad I'm thinking of potential or not he would be a great signing no two ways about it.

He looks like a young Modric in terms of looks and style of play. He's got a huge reputation for a youngster so I'm all for it.

Liverpool transfer news and rumours: Mario Balotelli targeted by Sampdoria; Napoli join Reds in Piotr Zielinski hunt

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli would be a “perfect fit” for Sampdoria, according to the club’s president Massimo Ferrero.
The 25-year-old endured a torrid loan spell with AC Milan and has returned to Merseyside for pre-season training with Jurgen Klopp’s men, who failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The former Manchester City striker remains highly unlikely to be a part of the German’s plans next season. “Balotelli is Balotelli's own worst enemy," Ferrero told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“He could re-launch [his career] at a passionate club like ours but I think he's still got mixed feelings. I've tried to tell him to come to Samp because he's a great talent.”

Liverpool are also facing a fight to secure a deal to sign Piotr Zielinski from Udinese, the 22-year-old’s current club, after Napoli gave up on their pursuit of Axel Witsel.

The Reds are faced with a race against time if they are to beat Napoli to Zielinski’s signature with the Serie A side looking to conclude their summer business swiftly, according to talkSPORT.

Reports suggest Napoli have already had an offer accepted for the Poland international as Klopp watches on from afar. Zielinski is a combative midfielder who, at such a tender age, has already won 16 caps for his country, scoring three goals.

Meanwhile, Joe Allen could be about to remain at Anfield after Europa League winners Sevilla cancelled their interest in signing the Welsh international.

Allen, 26, is currently with the Wales squad as they prepare for tonight’s European Championship semi-final against Portugal. According to Estadio Deportivo, Liverpool’s asking price of £14m has put off a number of his suitors.

Swansea City, Allen’s former club, failed with an £8m bid earlier in the summer as Klopp looks to secure maximum profit on the central midfielder despite handing him just eight starts in the Premier League last season.

You can see what's going to happen here a mile off, we are going to end up with pretty much the same midfield as last year. We might beef the squad up with a couple of young prospects but by and large it will be the usual suspects again.
It never ceases to amaze me how this club is happy to throw tens if not hundreds of millions down the drain on AM's and CF's but neglects the one area of the team that has been crying out for some genuine quality for years.
I think most of us were expecting a midfield clear out this summer but alas it looks like it's going to be another mid table finish again.
If you build your team around mid table players like Henderson, Allen and Milner don't be surprised when you finish there.

We've already bought 2 players for the back 5 and expect to bring another so that's a major change to the defence. It's quite clear we do want a CM to play alongside Can but I don't think we should be panicking just because we haven't been able to do it by July 6th. The transfer market is a bit of a game sometimes and can be a bit like dominoes in that once one goes and number of others do. It does sound like Mahmoud Dahoud has been and is still our number 1 target but unless Borussia Monchengladbach are able to find a couple of CM they probably won't sell him to us despite us willing to pay over 20mil for him.

I'm pretty happy that we have been able to bring in 3 first team players in time for pre-season and I'm sure more will follow (including a CM) before our first game of the season.

I was talking specifically about midfield mate, its pretty much been on the slide since Alonso left and no one has addressed it. We throw money at other area's of the team but for some reason we neglect the most important cog of the machine.

I see that Alex Pato has been quietly shoved out the back door at Chelsea after a Jan-May total of 2 appearences. A complete waste of time and 33,000 a week. That's where football clubs get it all wrong.. he cost 4 months wages, half a million quid for NO return on investment. I wish someone would pay me the same to get fit for 4 months.

There's a lot of lemons out there lads.
