A bit of an unhealthy situation developed around the CB position ,5 players feeling they deserve a starting position....I think the Coates/Toure injuries triggered a bit over the top reaction. Can't see this withholding after January.

I wasn't counting Coates :)

Agger ,Toure ,Ilori ,Sakho and Skertel...And Wisdom is still with us....Overcrowded a bit.

I wouldn't also count Ilori yet as well - certainly behind 4 Cb's at the moment. Staying with Lisbon for the season to carry on developing I think would have been a good move

For a lad who was injured and out of favour by the boss I thought he did an excellent job yesterday. He is probably our best defender, its a shame he chokes far too often when pressurised on the ball.

Hopefully he will leave sooner rather than later. Another unfortunately average player left behind by Benitez. I was hoping he would make way this summer.

It's not overcrowded at the back. Agger and Sahko will be the main pair up, Toure, Illori back up & Skrtel + wisdom fodder for Capitol One Cup emergencies.

Whats the worst case, we have CB's fighting for a spot?

I read recently a soccernet article that zenit wants skrtle back for 16 million. It's a decent price for a defender. Considering our abundance of defenders currently albeit some are out injured, will it actually be a good move to cash in on Martin? I'm kinda tempted...

Probably just another journo lost for a story. If there is any truth in it then it has to be worth considering.I like MS but he is somewhat limited and prone, admittedly like most defenders,to the occasional howler.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

***** poor on the ball. Has games where he looks like a world beater but to many where he makes amatuerish mistakes that cost us goals.

I'd take anything over £8,000,000 myself and put it towards improvements elsewhere.

Really do think its time Skrtel was sent packing. I'd take whatever I can get in January for him as his times up.

That today was completely unforgivable. He's cost us any chance we had of winning the league this season with completely inept defending.

For the first goal, what on earth was he doing? You're meant to try and win the header, not rip Kompany's shirt off. No attempt whatsoever on trying to win the ball.

For the second that has to be one of the most amatuerish pieces of defending I've ever seen. If he runs back in a straight line, the city player would be forced wide and that through ball would never have been on, instead he tried to come across and therefore left himself and Sahko completely out of position. Had he held his position, Sakho was perfectly placed.

He also could have gave away two, absolutely blatent penalties.

He should never pull a red shirt on again. Absolutely shocking performance from a player who some fans still seem to love.

One of the weak links at present and needs to be shipped out!

Was just about to say the same thing. I saw the highlights and was wondering WTF was he doing!?! He's a real idiot honestly, as in, idiot meaning lacking intelligence. If that was Toure I highly doubt it would have gone it.

???

Could've sworn I saw him make at least two/three massive tackles/interventions when city looked odds on to score. Maybe I need to watch the game again.
