We might get through it, but at what cost to this football club? I can see Agger leaving next summer for a slashed down fee if we aren't going to make progression this season. What's to say Suarez won't decide to upsticks?

I'm still not too sure what to make of the owners at all...  I think when they first came in and kenny did so well they must have thought a bit of investment would push us back into the CL places and they could build from there.

Although the net spend wasn't huge we did invest a lot of money last summer and cleared out a lot of deadwood but the new signings were pretty mediocre also.  No money in January when Lucas was injured and Suarez about to start his ban suggests that they'd already pretty much given up on Kenny / Comolli.

This summer they also seem reluctant to spend big.  Perhaps after last summer they want Rodgers to prove himself before heavily backing him in the market...  Thats a dangerous strategy though as several players may be looking to the exit if we don't look like competing any-time soon.

Either way, I think FSG have given up any hope of a quick fix and we are now at the very beginning of another 5 year plan.

what dont get mate is that both clubs must have agreed a deal, Dempsey was on the M6 heading to Liverpool when he got a call to say he had been sold to Spurs.
all we had been told that day was bids being turned down, he was booked in to have a medical at 8pm

at that point Rodgers left the club to go home for the night.

So Rodgers as far as he was concerned thought he'd got him a striker... job done...  start planning for Sundays game. Turns out some fuk'r canceled the deal and now we're left with a hole to fill. we'll get through it.

This still isn't a big enough reason to turn on the owners. The same owners who kept us in existence. Have a bit of respect lads and for fuk sake have some dignity. we'll get through it together as one... just like we've always done.

Heimdall, parchpea and all the other clowns need not bother coming along.

Spot on.  Some people seem to be emotionally unstable.  :Oo:

I think that as more has come out about what has happened its hard to blame Rodgers or the owners, ok Rodgers had his mind set on Dempsey, so you could say that was his mistake but it seem the club worked very hard to get this deal done.
I think the blame lays with the other clubs. i would say that Dempsey has not come out of this looking good but if he had not turn the car around he would not have had a club to play for.

Still no facts out there on who the 2nd medical was booked for.

I will call it quits on the subject now but for me the FSG mask slipped on Friday and
Henrys letter confirmed my suspicions.

This firm have bitten off way more than they can chew and we will get nowhere under
their ownership so get used to dissapointment.

Quite frankly you epitomise the idiocy of our fanbase nowadays.

Despite my disappointment in our failing of the transfer window. I would prefer another season of winning nothing if we are progressing towards a self sufficient business model. I could not agree more when John Henry said

That ethos is to win. We will invest to succeed. But we will not mortgage the future with risky spending

Don't be naive in thinking that we are immune from liquidation. It nearly happened under the previous regime and you can see what happen to Rangers. No one saw that coming.

If it means our recovery as a winning club takes a few seasons, then so be it. The one thing I despise most about this club today is the knee-jerk, instant success craving, plastic fan base. It started after the CL win. We lost the right to be one of Europe's elite when H&G screwed us over. I like the self-sufficient model that FSG are applying because primarily it stops risking the foundations of the club for what is essentially a short term gain.

FSG and Rodgers have made mistakes that we harshly learnt in the transfer window. My instinct is that won't happen again, if I am wrong i'll hold my hands up. But what I won't do is slate the owners, who to the business minded individual, are implementing a reliable long term strategy despite the small minded opposition.

When FIFA's Financial Fair Play rules come into effect, you'll thank that sound business strategy. If only you could see...

You buy into what Fenway tell us where as I dont and thats not idiotic its a difference of opinion.

Yes lets just blame everyone else so that we can feel like victims again, that's the default setting for "true" Liverpool fans isn't it???

The reality is that we have the stingiest owners in the premiership, they have not put any investment into the lcub after the initial rock bottom purchase. The money they gave to Kenny and Comolli to squander was mostly money generated from sales. This transfer season was the time for a fresh start with a new manager who clearly was lied to about the money he would be allowed to spend, hence the little comments here and there about not having a pot to ***** in as regards transfers, it was a massive opportunity missed and one the club will rue for many season I think.

The reality is that we are about to become midtable becuase there are already a whole host of teams cementing their place above us in the table and as they have owners investing in them this will only get more pronounced.

We may be rock solid financially but when we are in the championship the players will leave, as will the sponsors and a good chunk of the fans then we'll become just another footnote in history.

We need owners who can finally give us that new stadium and proper investment to get us back to where we belong one of the top 4 teams in the country.

I don't quite no what you do for a job or how you square things financially but I think you need a fkg big wake up call. FSG have allowed Dalglish,Comolli and Rogers to spend £140m in the transfer market. I don't give two flying fks where the money came from. You suggest that FSG have not supported LFC. To be frank you are talking utter shight !! The fact that Dalglish and Comolli p.issed £110m down the Mersey is not the fault of the owners. If the owners were not prepared to support LFC they could have very easily kept £100m in the bank and substantially reduced the funds available for transfers. Absolutely chronic dealings in the transfer market have put us in the position we find ourselves and not the owners. Support the team ffs and stop talking about Championship football next season which makes about as much sense as your understanding of matters financial! I guess you probably work for a bank!

Unfortunately mate there are some people on here that regard the legend that is Kenny Dalglish to be beyond criticism and will look for any excuse they can find other than Kenny for the downfall of LFC. Kenny was brought back during some very desperate times and he successfully steadied the ship and brought the heartbeat back to Liverpool for which we should be very grateful. He also got us to a couple of cup finals and won us our first silverware in six years.Performances in the league however during the second half of the season were terrible. It will take me a very long time to forget just how bad we were at home to West Brom and Fulham. Dealings in the transfer market were pathetic and it has to be remembered that Dalgish and Comolli were allowed to spend £110m by the owners who some clowns are actually deriding. My major criticism of the owners is that they gave in to fan power and panicked into buying Carroll when they sold a very out of form Torres.

dalglish on the whole did a good job, as you say yourself he did great when he first arrived.
up until christmas last season we played 23 games in all competitions and lost 3, those games were stoke, spurs and fulham away, in the spurs and fulham games we had players sent off and the game against stoke was our best performance down there in a decade, we had something like 20-30 shots on their goal and they didnt even manage 1 shot in open play, they won because of a controvesial pen when carragher got tangled up with walters. even pulis said they were lucky.
we went there a few days later and beat them in the league cup.
out of those 23 games we won 13, drew 7 and lost 3. those games included wins away at arsenal, 2 wins away at chelsea, a win away at everton and home draws to city and united.
at christmas we were in 6th position on 30 points, ahead of us were arsenal (32 points), chelsea (33 points) and spurs in 3rd on 35 points.
halfway through the season we were 3 points off a CL place and 5 points off 3rd place.
i mention christmas because that was the time when we lost our 2 best players (suarez started his 9 game ban and lucas was injured at the end of november / beginning of december)
that was also about the time when the suarez affair blew up into one of the biggest storms seen in english football in years.
i believe kenny was let down by the owners badly around this time, firstly their lack of leadership over the suarez thing and also their refusal to spend any money in the january transfer window, i know the club had spent big money but the loss of lucas was crucial and spending £5m on a DM could have made all the difference.
the wheels came off but there were reasons, any club would have been affected by losing their two best players and that media storm.
i cant understand people who have a go at dalglish, he was here 18 months and for 12 months of that time he did a good job and there were reasons for the poor performances in the last 6 months of his time. saying that even in that `poor` 6 months he got us to wembley 3 times and won our first piece of silverware in 6 years.

Wasnt it for strurridge?

I read in the echo yesterday that FSG had put up the £15m for Sturridge, chelsea wanted to do business but but BR only wanted him on loan and Sturridge didnt want to come on loan so it fell through!

Clearly you fall into the Kenny is beyond criticism camp  :;):  Look I'm a massive fan of Kenny and almost everything he has achieved for LFC but there were several games when he got things tactically wrong and that contributed considerably to our end of season poor league position. If that wasn't bad enough just take a look at how many points we were away from the top of the table.

During Suarez's nine match ban the record was: Won 6 Lost 2 Draw 1. We didn't really miss Suarez but I do agree that we missed Lucas.

Transfer dealings were the biggest problem and if you wasted £110m of your companies money you'd be sacked as well. I certainly feel the criticism of Dalglish is justified and the castigation of the owners is unwarranted.

anyone would think Kenny didnt even pick the team the way people defend him.

He only wanted charlie Adam.  Never heard anything so laughable!  He didnt want henderson but Played him 37 times in the EPL though.

For a player he never wanted, seems crazy he would pick him so much.  I am waiting to here that Kenny never picked the side in the last 6 months next.  Never coached the team in training and was just a guy in the dressing room to lift spirits. lol

The way people defend him is embarrassing.   He made mistakes like all managers do!

no one is saying he never made mistakes, what i am saying is that he wasnt to blame for all the wasted money and i am saying when you look at his 18 months in charge he did a good job, especially considering he inherited a team just above the relegation zone and a fanbase practically at civil war.
kenny was unlucky, at the halfway point in the season we were 3 points of a CL place, the loss of lucas and the suarez affair (and subsequent ban) would have derailed any managers season. the press coverage and the pressure on suarez and kenny would have broke lesser men, suarez himself admitted that he broke down in tears after arriving home after one particularly long day in manchester at the F.A hearing.
i`m actually surprised we managed to reach the two cup finals, after that grovelling apology by kenny and suarez the day after the old trafford debacle i think every liverpool supporter just wanted the season to be over and i imagine the players were the same.
i think kenny should have got some leeway from the owners, i think he was harshly sacked.

Fans union Spirit of Shankly calls on LFC owners Fenway Sports Group to appoint Liverpool-based chief executive

LIVERPOOL FC supporters union Spirit of Shankly have released a statement calling for American owners Fenway Sports Group to increase their presence on Merseyside and appoint a Liverpool-based chief executive.

The club face playing half the season with only two senior strikers after failing to replace loaned-out Andy Carroll before the end of the transfer window and principal owner John Henry yesterday wrote an open letter to supporters explaining the club's transfer policy and admitting to 'mistakes' made in the owners' first 23 months in charge.

The statement reads:

Following yet another summer where off the pitch activities at Liverpool Football Club have dominated the headlines, we once again find the club ownership attempting to explain away business decisions that have overshadowed footballing matters.

Spirit of Shankly reiterates its stance that the position of manager at Liverpool Football Club should be supported with all of the resources at the club’s disposal.

However, events of last Friday and the subsequent “open letter” from the club’s Principal Owner, John W Henry, indicate that almost two years into FSG's ownership of the club this is not yet the case.

As pointed out by the union in May, there remains no ownership presence on this side of the Atlantic. It is our opinion that this situation has led directly to the "mistakes" alluded to in Mr Henry's open letter.

Should the club’s absentee owners not wish to establish a full-time base in Liverpool, it remains imperative that they appoint a Chief Executive of a calibre commensurate with the club’s global status, to act with the full authority of the owners in their absence.

Without this Chief Executive, it is far from sufficient for a club of Liverpool’s stature to have a part-time Chairman, based on another continent, with various other interests, and from whom little or nothing of consequence is seen or heard.

In case FSG need reminding, they are now employing their third manager, have already dispensed with the services of their Director of Football and now accusatory fingers are pointing in the direction of their Managing Director.

The questions posed of FSG by Spirit of Shankly during the close season remain unanswered. If the board is based in Boston, why has no Liverpool-based Chief Executive been appointed to oversee the club’s affairs?

It is almost two years since Liverpool Football Club was sold to FSG, with the stadium development being a condition of the sale, yet still no decisions have been made and still communication with fans and neighbouring residents alike remains patchy at best.

Commendably FSG will not sanction the spending of money the club has not got, but why not increase the money available to the club through selling shares to supporters?

There comes a point at any football club where the Chairman has to step forward on behalf of the board and be held accountable for decisions that they have made and strategies that they have implemented.

With key questions continuing to go unanswered, Spirit of Shankly suggests it is time for Tom Werner to be held accountable as Chairman of Liverpool Football Club. After all, the buck stops with him, not with those acting with his authority and not with people no longer at the club.

Seems a reasonable request when you consider the breakdown in communication that transpired on transfer deadline day .
