Actually the mistakes were made by Commoli and Kenny as already discussed... So it is quite unfair that the owners are getting the flak... 80+ million spent on Carroll, Adam, Henderson and Downing... Managers fail and succeed by their signings... Rafa's initial purchases like Reina, Torres, Mascherano and Alonso were inspired. Rafa's downfall started when he bought Babel, Voronin, Keane and Aquilani, etc. Kenny was unfortunate in that the 4 of his 5 buys failed to live up to expectations and they weren't small purchases...

I will call it quits on the subject now but for me the FSG mask slipped on Friday and
Henrys letter confirmed my suspicions.
This firm have bitten off way more than they can chew and we will get nowhere under
their ownership so get used to dissapointment.
That ethos is to win. We will invest to succeed. But we will not mortgage the future with risky spending

it is very short sighted and I don't agree with it, but that is probably right - all about sell-on value. - whether it's to line their pockets, - or generate more cash for the club to spend, we dont know, but it could be that they only wish to buy players where their transfer value will increase over time. None of this Carroll/downing malarky - but more of the younger players that have sell on value equal to or greater than their purchase price. Dempsey, biught for £6m at 19 years old would delavue the older he gets. Someone like Joe Allen, whilst expensive at £15m is young, and his stock could actually rise.
Of course we all know that there are gems to be found, and great players still around in their late 20's and early 30's, but the sell-on value might be a factor in the Dempsey deal.

what dont get mate is that both clubs must have agreed a deal, Dempsey was on the M6 heading to Liverpool when he got a call to say he had been sold to Spurs.
all we had been told that day was bids being turned down, he was booked in to have a medical at 8pm
at that point Rodgers left the club to go home for the night.
