Liverpool's hopes of signing Colombian youngster Luis Muriel have been boosted by Sampdoria's struggle to secure the attacking talent.

Muriel is set to leave Udinese this January and his top priority is to remain in Serie A.

With talks between Muriel and Sampdoria stalled, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers could swiftly offer a rival bid for the Colombia international.

"I think I'll change club and we are waiting to know what will happen," he told El Heraldo.

"Sampdoria are a strong option, we are really close even if we recently also had offers from Liverpool, Southampton, Fiorentina and Milan. I think Sampdoria will be my destination.

"They are playing a wonderful football, are fighting to get into the Champions League or the Europa League."

Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool target Edinson Cavani has been backed to complete a stunning £62million move to the Premier League from PSG this summer.

As reported by Express Sport yesterday, the French club have told Cavani he is free to leave at the end of the season after being left out of Laurent Blanc's winter training camp in Marrakech.

Louis van Gaal, Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers are now set to battle it out for the striker's signature, although it is now claimed that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is keeping tabs on any developments.

And Cavani's switch to England has now been confirmed by prominent Uruguayan journalist Valentin Fletcher, who said: "For the time being, Cavani will not leave PSG until the end of the season, as his agent confirmed.

"The winter camp? Like [Ezequiel] Lavezzi, he was given permission to miss it by the club. He wants to win the Champions League with PSG [this season].

"His future? This winter he will remain in Paris, but at the end of the season there is a strong chance he will go somewhere else, in particular to England or Spain."

Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham have been boosted in their chase of Paris Saint Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi after it emerged that Napoli have backed out of the race to land his signature, the Daily Express reports.

The Serie A club were thought to be in for £17million man Lavezzi, who they sold to PSG for £21m in 2012.

However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has ruled out a second move for Lavezzi as he claims the club cannot afford his £3.5m-per-year wages, which is the reason why they sold him in the first place.

Crystal Palace have no plans to part with star winger Yannick Bolasie, according to the club's caretaker boss Keith Millen.

Bolasie has been one of the shining lights for Crystal Palace this season, catching the eye of several clubs with some impressive performances.

Liverpool and Newcastle are both reportedly interested, while the 25-year-old is also said to be a target for clubs in Ligue 1.

But Millen has revealed Palace have no intention of selling Bolasie, or any other members of their squad.

"Well we are hoping to not just keep Yannick. I am sure we won't lose any players. I will be amazed if we let any players go," said Millen.

"We are happy with the squad we have got, we need to improve so I am sure we will not be losing any players."

We've been 'offered' Defoe and I also offer my own services as a centre forward stop gap.

Liverpool must be offered 50 players a week running up to a window if not more.

No wonder Gerrards taken his ball home if we even consider signing him.

Lets bring Fowler back sniffing the lines

I really can't see this happening, unless of course, the Club were willing to sell  one of the following, RS, Markovich, Coutinho or  even Lallana or perhaps a whole load of Academy players.

Liverpool are reportedly challenging Juventus and Inter for Bayern Munich talent Xherdan Shaqiri.

The two Serie A sides have not disguised their interest in the Swiss international and met with his entourage yesterday, but so far Bayern have resisted offers, considering them to be too low.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Inter are closest to giving Bayern the deal they want, as they'd include an obligatory buy-out clause at the end of the season.

Juventus, on the other hand, have agreed personal terms with Shaqiri's entourage, but not with the German club, as they want him on loan with option to buy.

Now Sky Italia claim that Liverpool have entered the fray with an offer of €14m for an immediate buy, but haven't spoken to Shaqiri yet.

His main priority is to ensure regular playing time, which he might not necessarily get at Liverpool.

Liverpool are believed to have been offered a deal to sign former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe in the January transfer window.

Defoe left the Premier League for the MLS last year, where he joined Toronto FC, but he could already be on his way back to England.

Several clubs have already been linked with a loan deal for the 32-year-old, but according to the Telegraph, Liverpool are the latest side to have been approached over a switch.

Toronto are believed to be keen to offload Defoe on a permanent deal for around £6m - a demand which could prove a sticking point in any potential interest from Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, with the Merseyside club likely to only be willing to take him on loan until the end of the season as a stop-gap solution.

Liverpool are reportedly looking to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window by making a £14.1 million bid for Valencia striker Paco Alcacer.

Alcacer, 21, has come through the youth ranks at the La Liga club and made his breakthrough last year, with his performances earning him a call-up to the Spanish international team.

The youngster has scored 10 goals and made four assists so far this season, but according to Marca talks to extend his deal - which expires next summer - have stalled.

The striker's current contract also contains a £14.1 million release clause, and Liverpool could capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding Alcacer's future by meeting it.

Liverpool's pursuit of Xherdan Shaqiri is close to being concluded, with the Swiss star reportedly set to make an imminent decision on his future.

The Reds are keen to bring in established players like Shaqiri in light of Steven Gerrard's announcement that he will be leaving the club, and were thought to have moved ahead of Inter Milan and Juventus in the race for the Bayern Munich star by making a permanent transfer offer.

The bid tabled by Liverpool comes in at just under £11 million according to Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio, but the Reds could still face some late competition for the 23-year-old's signature.

Bayern are now thought to be willing to accept Inter's offer of a loan deal with an obligatory deferred payment at the end, leaving Shaqiri with a decision to make over his future.

Reports in Italy have stated that the former FC Basel man favours a move to Inter, but according to Swiss newspaper Blick Liverpool remain in the driving seat due to their financial superiority over the Serie A side.

It is also understood that the Swiss international will decide on his next destination imminently, and he could leave the Allianz Arena as soon as next week.

Regarding all the Xherdan Shaqiri links, a lot of papers had said we were pretty much nailed on to get him, but now in the past few hours Mirror reporting that Inter have nabbed him
