he probably just edges it but in truth there hasnt been much competition.
gerrard actually started last season in awful form, joe allen was our best midfielder early on but gerrards form picked up not only after sturridge and coutinho arrived but when hendo was introduced into the team to add some legs in midfield.
when hendo got into the side he scored quite a few goals so he wasnt just a workhorse. take away pens and he finished the season with the same amount of goals as gerrard despite playing half the games gerrard did.
lucas was still trying to regain his pre-injury form for most of the season and sahin was a bit lightweight for the prem.
this season up until the west brom game gerrard had been very poor but no one else has been substantially better although they did at least bother to put in a shift. we are a third of the way through the season and not one of our midfielders has scored yet from open play (in the league, i know hendo scored that goal against notts county) which tells you the state of our central midfield.
saying hendo has been the pick of our midfield over the last 2 seasons isnt as laughable as some of you are trying to make out, if he hadnt have been introduced midway through last season to cover for gerrards lack of mobility who knows how gerrard would have played during the second half of last season.

That's harsh. Henderson is a young player who has ups and downs. His work ethic cannot be faulted and when he gets his performance right he is very effective in his role. However he has a problem with consistency.

FFS, Gimme a break, you talk as though Gerrard has been pushing a zimmer frame around the pitch for all of the past TWO seasons and had to be helped around the park by Henderson !

As SCS pointed out when Henderson's on his game he's very effective, mainly through work rate than anything else, there's loads of players out there who can run around a lot, imo he's still up and coming with much to learn.

The flip side to your question about how Gerrard would have done without Henderson covering for his lack of mobility is, how would Henderson have done without Gerrards' instructions ?

Slower he may be but over the last TWO seasons Gerrards' still been our best midfielder by a country mile.

i dont rate this source at all and more so by the fact that brendan has said he wants 1st team players from now on 

hughes looks like he`s going to be a star but i`m not sure he would improve us in the short term. terrific talent though.
