Sabre has talked about Real Madrid likely to have a "become more Spanish" backlash, and would be likely to get rid of some of their Dutch contingent.

Liverpool and City battle Inter for ex-Chelsea star
Manchester City and Liverpool are chasing former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben, and they face stiff competition from Italian giants Inter Milan according to reports in the Mirror.

The Real Madrid winger is reportedly a £20 million target for the three clubs, with all of them eager to add the 25 year old Dutchman to their squad.

City remain on the look out for elusive star signings to bolster their squad and lofty ambitions, while Rafa Benitez is eager to add further width to his midfield and competition for places for Dirk Kuyt and Albert Riera.

Jose Mourinho had a fragile relationship with Robben during their time at Chelsea, but he is a huge admirer of the former PSV star’s talent.

Dont want robben  :( ..i would prefer silva anyday  :(  :no

Not me, I'd take Robben over Silva any day.  Have you seen Robben play lately?  He has been freaking amazing.  Exactly what we need.

Yes he is very good with the ball, even yesterday he did stand out.. the problem is that this guy is a big ego and ends up playing selfish most of the times.. if i would get anyone from madrid it would be Pipita and then Iker  :D  and a 3rd choice would be wesley snejider or VDV

me too.

I know middlesborough haven't been doing that well this season but in 35 league games Downing has 0 goals and only 3 assists.

I'm sorry, but surely we can be looking at better... if we do infact go for someone else for the left wing

We could really do with Downing and Barry combined. We need english players for the Uefa quoata and an ageing Carra and Gerrard are our only English players and we badly need some more. In total we'll need 5 on the bench and pitch combined so we might aswell have 2 natural left wingers in Downing and Riera and then have Barry to play all over the pitch. Tbh if we sign any more Spanish players we'll be taking the pi$$. We already have 5 in starting line up ffs let alone make it 6 and blow our buget on Silva.

Barry £8-9,000,000

Downing £12,000,000

Any strong attacking RB £5-10,000,000

Lucas and Xabi Alonso could both leave Liverpool this summer

Liverpool are ready to sell midfielder Lucas Leiva - and the Brazilian is willing to go.

Leiva has had a hard time winning over the Anfield fans, who have at times made him a scapegoat for the team's failings.

Boss Rafa Benitez will let the 22-year-old midfielder leave for around £6million, which will interest clubs in Spain and Italy.

Xabi Alonso could also depart as part of a summer clear-out.

Liverpool eye move for highly-rated striker  4th May 2009

Liverpool have joined the race to sign Almeria star Alvaro Negredo, who admits he would love the chance to move to Anfield.
Skysports.com can reveal that Negredo is on Rafa Benitez's list of targets for the summer.

Negredo has been one of the real stars of La Liga this term with 19 goals for unfashionable Almeria.
In his two seasons with Almeria he has now bagged 32 goals and his exploits have not gone unnoticed.
Fulham made an unsuccessful effort to sign him in January, while Aston Villa are also keeping a watching brief.

Liverpool are now ready to make a move for the player, although his situation is somewhat complicated in that Real Madrid have first option on him until the end of June. He was with Real Madrid - albeit mainly their second team - before he joined Almeria, but they inserted a buy-back clause of £4.4million which they are now likely to activate.

This will mean they can sell him on, with reports suggesting they would want £9.8million and it seems Liverpool would be willing to pay this sum. Negredo, at just 24, represents real potential and Benitez is keen on taking him to England. The player himself has revealed that Liverpool have made contact.  "To play next to Fernando Torres at Anfield is a dream and any player would accept that," he told skysports.com.

"But I prefer to talk about reality and I have not spoken with Rafa Benitez, but I do know that some contact exists between the clubs."
Negredo concedes that Real Madrid will ultimately decide where his future lies. "My future depends on Real Madrid, but I believe that this summer I will be out of Almeria," he continued. "I am grateful to Almeria because they have given me my chance to play in the Primera Liga.
"But it is logical that I am interested in playing in the Premier League and especially Liverpool.
"I believe that playing in England would be a great chance for me as this league is a sensational place for forwards."

Robben would be an excellent addition to the side... id even go as far as saying i'd take Robben ahead of Silva, Maxi, Simao and the likes... hes technically gifted and can unlock defenses with his speed and dribbling... can play down both flanks and puts in great crosses... exactly what we need and probably the best winger in world football after Ronaldo... we should do whatever it takes to get him if hes available...

and before anyone goes on about his attitude... well so what ?! Ronaldo has a stinky attitude and i'd say the mancs are doing pretty okay with him in the side...

we need players like Robben... players who can take the ball, run it down the flank or go on solo runs to spread out tight defenses... different options when going forward... less predictability ... thats what we need to convert some of the draws to wins...

ofcourse we can always go for messi if the robben thing doesnt work :p

Berg favours Liverpool move

Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their interest in Swedish striker Marcus Berg according to reports in Holland.

Rafa Benitez is set to add to his striking options this summer after letting Robbie Keane return to Tottenham in the winter transfer window and Berg is now the favourite to fill the void.

Berg has attracted the interest of Ajax and Fiorentina but is thought to favour a move to the Premiership with Dutch club Groningen willing to let their prize asset leave for around 12 million euros.

The Groningen striker scored 15 goals in 25 games in his debut season in the Dutch Eredivisie last year. The 22-year-old has impressed again this season with 17 goals in 30 games and this form has convinced Benitez to table an official offer with Groningen in an attempt to avoid a bidding war with other clubs.

Benitez has also been linked with moves for Luis Suarez of Ajax and Edin Džeko who currently plays for VfL Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga.
