LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez says winger Jermaine Pennant will join Portsmouth, but expects defender Daniel Agger to stay at Anfield despite being linked with AC Milan.
The 26-year-old Pennant is out of contract at the end of the season and is set to meet with Pompey officials in the coming days after Liverpool on Friday accepted a bid from its Premier League rival.
"We have agreed with Portsmouth. We are waiting for news but I think it will be OK," Benitez said Saturday. "I think he'll say yes and everything will be sorted."
Agger looks set to remain part of Liverpool's push for a first league title since 1990, despite the Denmark international's agent being spotted with Milan officials.
"I had a conversation with him two days ago. He wants to stay," Benitez said. "He isn't thinking about money -- he's thinking about staying. In our last conversation he told me he was waiting for our phone call.
