Fuck off

Arsene Wenger is expected to revive his interest in Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso as soon as the January transfer window opens to compensate for the loss of club captain Cesc Fabregas.

Spain midfielder Fabregas will be sidelined until April, with partially ruptured medial ligaments and his absence will been keenly felt.

Arsenal’s title chances without Fabregas, who will miss 25 games if the gloomiest predictions regarding his length of absence are correct, could be salvaged by a move for his international colleague.

Alonso was the subject of a £14mil deadline day bid in August, but Arsenal manager Wenger refused to meet Liverpool’s valuation of £17mil and the deal collapsed.

Ironically, it was Alonso’s tackle in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend that has created the void in Arsenal’s midfield and Wenger is also considering Barcelona’s Yaya Toure, Juventus youngster Sebastian Giovinco and Stephane Mbia of French side Rennes, who claims to have been the subject of a failed 11th-hour bid from Arsenal in August.

New Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis will take up his post on Jan 1 and brings with him great experience in player contract negotiations from America.

Wenger is being encouraged by the Arsenal board to spend, with the Frenchman saying: “We are now more likely to buy in January.”

Alonso is close friends with Spain team-mate Fabregas, who said pre-season that Alonso’s possible arrival in London “would be perfect — I’d love it”.

Inaki Ibanez, Alonso’s agent, has left the door open to a move by stating ambiguously: “We will see what happens in January.” — AFP

:censored:-ne wants Alonso for his team? Our key player this season? Weird this one coming from a man who said " oooo my team is better than Liverpool..Liverpool scared of us...ooo catch us if u can ..ooo ...we deserved to win (after a sloopy display)...ooo etc  ( in french accent ). If your team is that good and can overcome anything, then why the heck hoping your rival's key player to come to you then? Unbelievable....

1)  Juande Ramos and Arsene Wenger will enter a bidding war to take Liverpool’s Spanish midfield maestro Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid or Arsenal respectively.

2) Rafa Benitez is interested in signing Hull City’s Michael Turner as a replacement for Sami Hyypia, but may wait until the end of the season to make his move.

3) The Reds’ Jermaine Pennant has turned down the opportunity to join Stoke City or Blackburn Rovers, opting to stay at Anfield and fight for his place.

"I would love to stay here for longer, I am a Liverpool fan and it was always my dream to play here," Pennant told skysports.com.

"At this moment, I can't imagine playing for another club in the Premiership.

4) Liverpool, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Tottenham are all in the hunt for Fulham defender Brede Hangeland, who’s future at Craven Cottage is uncertain according to manager Roy Hodgeson.

5) Bayern Munich hope to beat Liverpool to the signing of Croatian international striker Ivica Olic, whose contract at Hamburg expires at the end of the season.

6) Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is poised to table an £8million bid to sign Liverpool winger Ryan Babel, who has had a frustrating season trying to earn a regular first team place under Rafa Benitez.

Babel has been linked with Serie A giants AC Milan along with former club Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, who are all being mooted as ready to make an offer for the Liverpool winger in January.

Babel said recently: "The rotation system is a thing of the past and I’m one of the victims. I’ve shown enough patience - I want to play."

7) Tommy Rowe, the 19-year-old winger is reported to be attracting the attention of Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham after making his first-team breakthrough with County last season.

8) Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly looking to bring in Deportivo La Coruna winger Angel Lafita during the January transfer window.

Reports claim that the Spanish tactician sent chief scout Eduardo Macia to watch Lafita several times this season. He has reportedly already made some sort of a contact with the former Real Zaragoza man’s representatives.

9)  Renato, Inter Milan and Liverpool also want the 20-year-old Brazilian midfield ace, who has adapted well to European football following his move from Flamengo to Bayer Leverkusen. He had reportedly been watched by representatives of Chelsea and Arsenal over the summer, but according to latest reports their Premiership rivals Liverpool are now also in the race while Italian giants Juve and Inter are set to provide a fierce competition. 20 year old Renato appears to be adjusting to life in the Bundesliga very well helping his Leverkusen side to within catching distance of shock leaders Hoffenheim.

10) Liverpool are tracking Shakhtar Donetsk defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy.

Ukrainian international Chygrynskiy, 22, is also being watched by Barcelona. Liverpool have sent scouts to check on the 6ft centre-half in their last few games.

11) Benitez has firmly denied any chance of former player Michael Owen making a return to Anfield. Liverpool are however going head-to-head with Manchester United in a bid to land Argentine Claudio Zuccolini.

I don't want Xabi to go.  I just hope Rafa does the right thing and keeps hold of him.  He's been one our best players this season.

Every player has a dip in form at some stage and I for one think he has overcome this period.  The stuff before the start of the season ie will he go to Arsenal or Barca or whereever etc shows that he has strong mentality.  Most players would probably not give a monkeys about the team once they know that the manager may not want them.  However, Xabi has shown that he is class by demonstrating that even in those times he can pull his finger out and show what a true class footballer he is.- by producing what he has so far this season.

You've got to keep him Rafa.

Pretty uninspiring list of players in that 11 point list. Angel Lafita is about the only one I think we need and even he is nothing to crow about. Olic is Kuyt mach 2 except on the left. Turner & Hangeland are battlers at best. Don't know anything about the other two.

Benitez has been eager to bring the 24-year-old to Anfield for some time in a bid to bolster his back four, and according to the People, the 24-year-old was given a tour of the club's Melwood training complex in the build-up to Christmas.

His rumoured presence at the club's facility has added fuel to speculation that the real reason he missed Portsmouth's Boxing Day thrashing by West Ham is because a deal is done - contrary to the official line claiming he was injured.

And if the rumours prove true it may be tough for Portsmouth to hold on to Johnson due to their ever increasing debts. Manager Tony Adams already faces losing key players to other big clubs.

A return to a big four club would signify a milestone in Johnson's career.

During his time with Chelsea he failed to live up to the promise he had shown at West Ham and was soon spending a lot of time on the bench before being sold to Portsmouth.

Having revitalised his career at Fratton Park under former manager Harry Redknapp, Johnson was finally granted a return to the England squad.

Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon has also caught the attention of Benitez this season, and he is reported to be willing to offer a cash-plus-player deal involving Jermain Pennant to see it go through.

Xabi Alonso is being linked with a move to Arsenal and Pennant has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

No thank you. Typical overrated full back who can’t defend but is a natural athlete so gets a ridiculous price tag put on him.

He is a good defender CHL, would be an excellent aquisition, sure he isn't a top defender like Bosingwa or Sagna, but he knows how to pass, how to get forward, and throws in a tackle when needed.

He knows how to pass and is a good defender? I don’t know which Glen Johnson your talking about but the one that plays for Portsmouth will always give you a chance.

He is quick, athletic and strong and does the hard things well but then looks like an amateur when doing the simple things.

£9 million is the price being talked about and I would much rather have Arbeloa at right back, considering that they are both about the same age and Arbeloa has been one of our most consistent and improved players this season.
