He seems to have matured from than nanny , i think he's a much better player than the last time you saw him , not saying we should sign him though as there's no way he can replace hypia as our backup

bbc rumours page:

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez may have to fend off a £19m double bid from Juventus for forward Ryan Babel and defender Daniel Agger. (Daily Telegraph)

for £19m i'd say no too... but a bid upwards of £22/24m would get me thinking. At £11/12m per player... hmmmm. Not definately saying I would but it would make me think

You know, I would negotiate with Juve for a possible move for Chellini, a quality defender!! I watched him against AC Milan last week and won about everything he was against, plus he is dominant in the air. 2m + Agger for Chellini?

Yes Chiellni is a class player and he can play both at centre back and at left back . Good deal , and he's not too old as well , 24 i think .

By David Maddock 17/12/2008

Rafa Benitez is ready to meet Spurs interest in Jermaine Pennant by proposing a swap deal.

And top of his list of possible exchanges will be young England star Aaron Lennon, who has impressed at White Hart Lane in recent weeks.

Speculation has increased to almost fever pitch recently over Tottenham interest in Robbie Keane, but new boss Harry Redknapp is also a know admirer of out-of-favour winger Pennant, who he tried to sign for Portsmouth in the summer.

Redknapp has maintained that interest since switching to the London club, and has made discreet enquires to see if he can land the former Arsenal player on the cheap.

Pennant has only six months remaining on his Anfield contract, and unless he plays more than 15 games for Liverpool - which would automatically trigger an extension - he can leave on a free at the end of the current campaign.

Given that he has so far made only four appearances, that prospect looks remote, especially because Benitez has basically washed his hands of the player after he missed a training session.

That means Liverpool will be desperate to offload in the January transfer window to cash in on the 28 year old, but so far Pennant has indicated he has no interest in proposed moves to either Stoke or Blackburn.

Tottenham is another matter though. Pennant wants to return to London where he enjoyed his time with Arsenal, and Redknapp would be interested if he is quoted a reasonable price.

That would be around £3million, but Benitez is ready to respond to any such valuation by offering Pennant plus cash for Lennon, who he sees as a gamble worth taking as he looks to strengthen his squad for a title push.

The key to any deal would be the price Spurs command for Lennon. If Liverpool were asked to pay around £7million plus Pennant, then Benitez would jump at the opportunity, because he feels he would be able to sell the young England winger at that price even if he failed to settle on Merseyside.

Redknapp might just be tempted because not only would he have a ready made replacement for Lennon, he would also free up some major cash to spend on new signings in the transfer window, with a striker a priority.

Liverpool meanwhile, have been urged to send out an emphatic title message by beating Arsenal on Sunday.

The rallying cry came from their Spanish winger Albert Riera, who believes that if his side can beat the Gunners, then not only will it knock the London club out of the race for the Premiership, it will also cement Liverpool’s challenge.

Speaking yesterday, Riera insisted that the Anfield club can release the pressure that has been growing on them in recent weeks, by turning up the heat on Arsenal.

"We've beaten United and Chelsea already this season so if we could now beat Arsenal maybe it would send a message out," he said.

"It would be a good response to go and win against Arsenal after disappointing draws at home. If we do that some might say we're doing it the hard way - beating the top teams and not those we might be expected to win against - but people forget this is a very competitive championship.

"We're still in a good position. Obviously it's a regret dropping points at home. If we hadn't drawn three successive games here maybe we'd be four or five points clear at the top, but we have to be positive."

No thanks.

Lennon is much quicker than Pennant but there's no way he has a better end product. I dont want either of them but if its a choice of Pennant, or pay money plus Pennant for Lennon, I'd rather stick with Pennant.

disagree stmike

lennon was outstanding the other day. in fact pace and skill on the ball was so evident

As I said he would be a really good right midfielder, better than benny and kuyt in that position.

Latest from guillembalague.com

Without doubt, the most common question being asked by Liverpool supporting friends of the site regards requests for information over January transfer targets.

I enjoying reading all of your questions and comments, they help make the site, so please keep them coming in!

The majority just want to know if Liverpool will be signing anybody when the transfer window opens, while there are a few who are pretty excited and would like some fairly extravagant rumours confirmed.

All I can say is that, as its stands at the moment, Liverpool will not be making any of those earth shattering big money signings that some people have been getting excited about.

The word is that before Liverpool start spending any serious money in January, players will have to be sold first. A couple of targets have been identified, but one of those is now going to sign for another club.

There may be one arrival, but it seems that at least one player – possibly Pennant – will have to move on first.

Of course, everyone has heard the rumours about Robbie Keane, and the story involving Steven Gerrard and Mark Lawrenson has been unavoidable. My take on this is that there is no operation underway to sell the former Spurs forward, but that if, for example, his old club were to come back in for him with a sizeable offer and a deal involving a player like Lennon – then of course Liverpool may give it some consideration.

That does not mean that is going to happen; simply that if the club were presented with an appealing offer that would benefit everyone concerned, then the manager may very well give it the green light. Nevertheless, if Keane stays at Liverpool, the consensus is that he will ultimately be a success and that his goals and abilities will play an important part en route to winning the League title.

Jermaine Pennant has priced himself out of an incredible move to Real Madrid as his wage demands forced a £3.5million transfer to collapse last night.

Madrid were expecting to announce the unlikely signing today after agreeing a fee with Liverpool for their reserve right winger, who has started only two Barclays Premier League matches this season.
No gain in Spain: Pennant's wage

No gain in Spain: Pennant's wage demands wrecked the chance of reviving his career with a £3.5m move to Real Madrid

Instead Pennant, who asked for £60,000 a week — almost double what was being offered by the Spanish giants — will now have to decide whether to accept a loan offer from Wigan or Stoke.

At the JJB Stadium he would be able to play for Steve Bruce again. He will then be a free agent in the summer when he believes he can command a better salary.

Although the salary demand is not remarkable in the modern game, Madrid —  who have just spent £20million on Lassana Diarra from Portsmouth — set a ceiling on their pay offer.

At 6pm last night, Sportsmail believed the deal was close to conclusion, only for it to break down two hours later when Pennant’s demands emerged. Madrid will not negotiate on their basic salary offer of £1.5m-a-year.
