Rijkaard on his own is a shi,te manager.

Rijkaard with Ten Cate – 2 league titles and a European cup

Ten Cate leaves

Rijkaard with out Ten Cate wins nothing for two years with Barcalona despite having an awesome squad and then leaves

Rijkaard manages Galatasary without Ten Cate, finishing 3rd and then  leaving them when they are 9th in the table.

He’s terrible without Ten Cate by his side!!

Stark parallels with Rafa and Paco really.

Wouldn't want Rijkaard without Ten Cate - if that's the case I would prefer Pellegrini

Err, we screwed ourselves over the Barry deal.  MON did what any good manager should do when trying to hold onto a key player: negotiate hard and make the other team pay through the nose.  With that said, I'm not sure he's the right fit.  For one, there's clearly too many Reds that don't want him...

Exactly, not saying I want MON or anything but it absolutely does my head in when i read that posters don't like him because of the way he handled the Gareth Barry situation, and lots don't. It doesn't make any sense at all, yeah he really shafted us didn't he? Stcking to his guns the way he did and demanding top dollar for his player, refusing to sell him to us and eventually keeping him at the club for an additional season. Crazy thing is it's the same fans disliking MON for the Barry stuff who are going crazy about Hodgsons' softly softly response to the Torres to united rumour. No doubt the irony is well and truly lost though.

I'm about as excited about the prospect of Pellegrini as I was in the summer which is not at all. If and when Hodgson goes I think it has to be Kenny to step in to allow the club to make a proper and exhaustive search for a new manager in the off-season. You're never going to poach a top manager mid-season which would leave you with the likes of Mon and Riikjard as your only options. It needs to be in the summer if we're to go out and get someone of true pedigree like a Van Gaal or a Guss Hiddink.

Similar to what I said the in first page of this thread.

I’d take Hiddink, Pellegrini (depending on his english) or Deschamps  - even if we have to wait until the summer to get the right man.

I have my doubts whether Rijkaard would be what we need right now

I think we need to realise we aren't going to get a top class manager - ones like Van Gaal or Hiddink aren't going to come to us - its the next level of managers we will be looking at - Pellegrini has a very good track record and has experience of building a team up .

its a good point. I'd be happy with Pellegrini. I'd certainly prefer him over Rijkaard. On the next level down I really admire Deschamps, and he has played over here too, so is familiar playing aginst bolton and blackburn in winter etc.

If we cant get Hiddink, my preference would be for Didier, followed by manuel, then - and I know this wont be popular but i really see MON on the same managerial level (albeit different styles of football) as Rijkaard (without Ten Cate) in terms of what they could do for Liverpool fottball club in its current predicament

fuk Rijkaard and his dutch face. I really don't rate him at all and judging by his track record that Redman put up here earlier, I think Im right.

Come folks, surely not?

Well depends on what way its looked at - He did well with Holland , not so great with Sparta , great with Barcelona and not so great with Galatassery

I think Rijkaard would be a good manager.  I also think Pellegrini would be good.

Id probably avoid MON though.  A bit like Roy, he has had a lot of success at lower or nearly there teams.  But how would he cope in an environment were he is expected to always win?  I know some will point to Celtic but the SPL is cack.

I think MON would do a decent job.  But i also think we'd be playing a target man and quite negative.

Then you're sights for this club are too low mate. I understand why the big guns wouldn't want to touch us with the debt and the ownership issues but things have changed or did I miss something? Obviously we will have to be able to pay top dollar for a new man and no doubt give him some assurances so far as transfers funding goes. Do you really think we are a 2nd rate proposition? Even with the new ownership?
