SKRTEL COULD BE BACK FOR CHRISTMAS

Liverpool have been buoyed by news Martin Skrtel does not need surgery on his right knee and could be back on the pitch by Christmas.
The centre-back, who suffered posterior cruciate ligament damage in the latter stages of our 3-2 victory at Eastlands on Sunday, had a scan on Tuesday afternoon.

Club spokesman Ian Cotton said: "Martin was examined by a specialist today, who confirmed the player does not require surgery and is expected to be back playing by Christmas."

Earlier in the day, boss Rafa Benitez admitted the loss of Skrtel was a blow, but claimed the presence of Sami Hyypia and Daniel Agger provided a silver lining.

"Everyone can see that the understanding between Martin and Carra is becoming really good," Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv. "To lose a player who is doing well is always a problem. It's bad news, but we have other options.

"Martin has learned a lot. He already had good qualities and potential when we decided to bring him here. We had a lot of confidence in him but you can always improve, especially playing alongside experienced players and working under the staff here. He has done that.

"He has given me a selection headache this season but that is a good problem for me as a manager."

Skrtel should take his time, those injuries take a lot of time to heal and to rush it now could finish his career.

There´ll still be lots of forwards to freighten when he gets back. :angry:

With the ACL, it really doesn't matter. Once it's gone, yer fucked, more or less. My mate done his in playing in a game years ago, and his knee is still wrecked. He never followed the physio's orders, though. I'll be amazed if we see him back before the end of the season, although I'm gonna say that that's more or less his season over I'm afraid.

Well he didnt damage his ACL, his PCL is the one that got damaged, which is less severe than the ACL

That's quick, but when I looked at that image of him when the injury occured, you knew he'd done some sort of ligament damage, so Christmas or after would have been anyone's bet knowing how long it takes for those kinds of things to heal. I done the ones under my foot. Took 2 months to heal.

My pal reckons he saw Skrtel cry on the tv when he injured himself?

I reckon if he looks clossely he´d see that Skrtel poked himself in the eye simply to make himself come over as more sensitive.

Skrtel doesnt cry, his eyes sweat.

looks like he got the grade I type of PCL injury, which doesn't require surgery and takes up to 4 - 6 weeks to heal

what about the Champions league... Hyypia is not in the squad ... still think it was a good move by rafa ?!
Hyypia should have made that squad ahead of atleast 2 or 3 players

Even Emlyn got too old at one stage mate, you have to let the youngsters come through and both Skrtel and Agger deserve their places.

Fingers crossed as it looked horrible.

He has been superb this season and with Aggers injury problems last season and Rafa's ommitance of Hyypia for the champios league squad we have to be careful we dont get into a position where we are relying on Arbeloa for centre half.

That could be very dangerous, get well soon Martin !!

If Skrtel was Santa Claus, his list wouldn't be divided into who's been "naughty" or "nice"

But rather "who lives", and "who dies".

Fair point ace', I remember some laughters when I pointed it out and was told something about the marathon of games the CL group league are.

hehe.. yea i remember arguing with some numpty about whether 6 games is alot or not

in all seriousness though.. if agger or carragher pick up any knocks we would look very shakey in the back ... an arbeloa-agger partnership would be an absolute nightmare !
