This sucks. It's the Chelsea game what worries me too. Drogba against Dossena doesnt paint a pretty picture considering how cack he was against Hull.

Cept me lad! I posted up a couple of times that i reckoned the lad would be 1st choice by mid-season but I can't bloody remember where i posted it! Cracking little player. Gutted he is off for this tournament and I'm surprised the club haven't pushed him to withdraw. It's a backwards step for the lad, no doubt about it.

lol , in some ways think the tournament will be good learning experience for him and will only improve him , still raw and learning but has certainly improved lots and his defending since a lot more solid since pre season . Looks like fabio going to be back at left back for a while now which isnt a bad thing and better than dossena there .

Ha ha.

I thought he was ok after seeing him on FM09. Infact when I was in charge at Liverpool he was my 1st choice LB and his average rating was 7.36.  :nod

I was the only one suggesting Insua as a starter of the beginning of this season and most people gave me stick for it. He is far better than the one who should not be named.

are we going to see arguments now about who was the first to say that insua should be in the first team?

its a shame he's off for a while but with aurelio getting fit again at just the right time we should be ok. in my opinion aurelio is on a par with insua anyway, and of course they are both streets ahead of dossena. as long as aurelio doesn't keep getting first dibs on every free kick around the area when he's on the pitch he'll do just fine. if aurelio does get injured again, and we have to admit its highly possible, i'd prefer to move arbeloa back out to left back for a couple of games than see dossena on the pitch ever again. carragher has had a few games to get his head back around playing right back recently and both sami and agger are in good form so we shouldn't have too many problems there.

to be honest, the defence is going to be looking in better shape (theoretically) than it has done for a while with arbeloa and aurelio fit and skrtel coming back too we'll actually have a few players of good quality to choose from. when insua comes back from his jaunt we'll be even better off still, and who knows, maybe another run of games at international level will bring him on just a little bit more. if he comes back a tournament winner than who knows how he'll kick on.

IMHO Insua is doing well enough in the last games, but I think the natural thing to happen is Fabio Aurelio recovering the starting position.

Of course, if we chain some victories with Insua I wouldn't very keen on changes, but I still think Insua has a lot of things to learn and Aurelio's experience will be very important if he manages to remain fit.

It's great news that Insua is ready to step in though, and it's very bad news that we spent money on a player that has been overtaken in the pecking order by a youngster.

Well done Insua :)

By all means I wanted Insua to be given opportunities. Just as I wanted Darby to asd well. But you were crazy saying Insua should be first choice. We just spent 8m on a LB who was supposed to be good.

You could easily see from the start that Dosseana was not up to it. Aurelio edges Insua but he is injured far to often and Insua will only get better.

I would not include Dossena just because we paid £7m for him and he's "supposed to be good". On performances this season I would say 1st choice LB is between Aurelio (injury prone) and Insua. Insua's not done a lot wrong.

I think we may see agger line up at left back against stoke , we don't have fuller to deal with as he's suspended but we do need sami to play due to delap's throws in .I think stoke have the tallest side in the league , and we need hypia as he's our strongest centre back in the air .

weird thing is that Insua's reserve team form was higher last season than this season (although thats a bit hard to judge because the whole team is not playing as well).  Hopefully his call up and mini run in the team will give hope to all the ressies that they DO have a chance.
