Hate to say it but......gerrard is finished.....

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

look at the players around him...

Ngog infront of him for the better part of the season (an injured/ not fully fit Torres)
Lucas and Mascherano behind him (both offer nothing in terms of passing ability and space creation through vision or movement)
Dirk Kuyt down the right... enough said
LM ? Our best option Reira is hardly played for some odd odd reason

Add to that his reported injury struggles and the fact that our whole system hasnt been working with minimal effort from the manager to try and change things around and you have a recipe for disaster... He's had a dip in form, a long one admittedly but he's still our most effective player in the side...

1 thing i agree with though, we need to get him on the ball more often and have him dictate our play and perhaps play him into some good form... move him back to CM was my suggestion before the season even started, 29 games in and I still think it would be the right thing to do...

I would drop him to CM alongside Mascherano and play Aquilani in the hole.

Gotta be honest I thought Aquilani shoulda started last night he looked pretty good when he came on, Babel too IMO.
I just think that we all expect too damn much from Stevie G and he can't give super human performances every week, too much is expected not just by us but from half the bloody team too!
I'd drop MAXI to the reserves I wouldn't pay him in washers with what he's done so far.
I think dropping Stevie back and replacing him with Aquilani might be a very good option to try.

He's not finished by a long shot, but he's had a bad season by his standards.

The court case got his season off to a bad start, he had the hump at Alonso going, he's had injuries, been playing through the pain barrier with injections before and after games, and to top it off he's been surrounded by sh.ite for most of the season.

Great thread though [insert sarcasm smiley here please].

His head's up his hole, and his attitude lately f*cking stinks. Sort it out, Steve lad, because if you don't want to play for this club anymore you should declare it and f*ck off. Sick of his attitude lately, I really am. Blames everyone but himself. He was appauling last night.

Yeah his body language says it all really and I think it's hit home to him that he has mediocre at best players around him this season. Aquilani should start more games and help him out.
But with rafa wanting boring bland footie just can't see it happening somehow?

This whole season has been a disgrace and it's not Gerrards fault.

Love that Sig Emerald, you come up trumps yet again with that.lol

I don't think Gerrard wants out, but i think he's as f*&ked off with this situation as much as the rest of us. I don't agree he's finished either, because his passing range will ensure he can play well into his 30s, regardless of his pace.

as others have alluded to... i think it boils down to the fact that he's frustrated by the lack of quality players around him, and its finally hit him this season that we wont win the league under benitez. last season he was buzzin playing ahead of alonso and mash with torres ahead of him. for the last few months he's had lucas, ngog, insua around him and an off form kuyt. he hates the situation he's in, and i reckon he's debating on whether he should leave at the end of the season or not.

this doesnt justify his form, temperament or body language or anything, but in my opinion this is why he is acting up like he is.

What he should be doing is acting like a real captain and dragging the team up from the doldrums of bad form. instead he gone off on one, and thrown his toys out of the pram

but one thing he is not... is finished.
