I won't right him off yet but I don't think he'll get better. He should be good for 2 years, then a bit reduced for 2 years and then time up.

im not saying hes :censored:, im not saying hes finished as a footballer

im saying he isnt world class anymore.......gerrards game was all about none stop running and stamina, box to box.........he has never had great guile or creativity....the bit of acceleration he had was crucial for his game to work

is he in the top 3 centre mids in the world? no chance

is he in the top 3 forwards in the world? no chance

He is nowhere near finished but I do believe he isn't worth his current paycheck anymore. He is still one of our better players, it is just that he can't single handedly save us with his energy and heroics.

If anything has been the cause of a dip in form this year for our captain, it's that injury has hampered his mobility and fitness, leading to a lack of confidence in his usual blood-and-thunder game.  That's understandable.  Less opportunity to link up with Nando has been another factor.  PLUS, (for me, at least) I think there has been some effect coming from a loss of confidence in the way the club has been run AND the team managed.

Steven Gerrard could easily be considered to be a top world-class player for another couple of seasons beyond this one, given the right players around him, an injury-free run and perhaps a manager who can unlock the team's potential (or buy better players and use them right).

That's just what i think anyway.

Spot on.

He's not finished in my eyes, He just doesn't believe in the manager no more and he is looking forward to the world cup more than helping us to 4th spot

so is he still in the current best 3 midfielders in the world list?

or the current 3 attacking forwards in the world?

Nobody would dispute his decline in form this season. The question is whether he can regain it in the coming seasons and the only impediment to that will be either his fitness (which you would expect to return, if not with full vigour), or potentially the team's prolonged stagnation; though I would expect something to give in the latter instance.

at 25 a poor season is easy to turn around and regain your best form

at 30 (which he will be next season) it wont be easy........added to that i believe hes lost a yard of pace and stamina (which is essential for the type of player he is)

wait there, we have one of the worst seasons in recent memory where EVERYONE has vastly underperformed and you choose Gerrard to be the culprit in the meelee of all of this. You crazy boi
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Oh dear.... oh d d dear dear

Steven Gerrard, for the FIRST time in his Liverpool career, doesn't have a quality passer in the same team.. and this has hampered him hugely this season as he has had miniscule service (ditto Torres) and has had far less attempts at goal. He stated in late November he was "devastated" Alonso was no longer at the club...and blamed losing him for our nosedive. Gerrard ain't stupid, he knows he aint getting the service of old, and that the downgrade to lucas (a poor mans Danny Murphy) has been catastrophic for the team.

From Redknapp to Hamann to McAllister to Alonso... there has always been that quality/composed top passer in midfield, who feeds Gerrard who then bombs on. This year there is no one, hes been starved of service and he has suffered for it bigtime.

His goal stats ROCkETED when Alonso signed in '04.. as Gerrard was then afforded to play advanced, and knew Alonso would find him. This season, we have a toothless player in lucas in the worst central midfield since Souness was manager, we create nothing from there, awful in possession, and midfield gets dominated on a weeky basis... so the attacking players are starving for any decent ball.

Lets also get it right...Steven Gerrard is not a central midfielder, he has never been a central midfielder. His passing is too erratic, he doesn't have the cool head of an Alonso to keep the ball and move it around in a metronomic manner...hes too anxious and always looks for the killer ball hence its the final third where he does his best work. He is an advanced attacking midfielder playing infront of the central midfield.

We haven't replaced Alonso... and Gerrard has suffered for it hugely.
