he was a bit down this season compared to previous years (I have seen all his matches with Atletico and yes, this year was not at his best)
Rafa is got some work to do, but I believe he will be ok

I was a little taken aback by the fact he has signed a 3.5 year deal but then I had a good think about, put 2 and 2 together and made 4...

Why would he sign for 3.5 years if his 2 mates (Mascha and Torres) had given any incling that they were going to jump ship in the summer, like many of the doubters have suggested. I see this move not only as a good move for a squad/team but an indirect statement of intent from Rafa and 2 of his main men (Mascha and Torres).

Maybe it is blind/drunken faith but that is what I take out of this deal. :)

yes blind faith. What must he have been thinking watching that shower of :censored: last night.  :no

Just wondering, if he is so good, why was he frozen out of the squad and offered to us free?

problems with the coach (especially Abel), which ended up polluting his whole relationship with the club. His contract was to be terminated at the end of this year and he could go free in June. He was authorised to negotiate with other clubs as from 1st January. His last seasons in Atletico were not that good - which prevented the club from offering him a decent renewal - and, especially, I think he was tired of not winning much, seeing good players go and constant changes in policy. As an Atletico fan I find this especially hard to say, but I believe he deserves a more professional and serious club, and that is what he has chosen

You  can give a better insight than me here mate.

From the outside mate, the rebellion that Atletico dressroom seemed to make against Abel was nameless, absolutely unacceptable. You can be against a manager, but you can't play with the attitude Atletico have been playing in some parts of this season.

I wondered if the bargain price we got had to do with him being one of the ones that have to removed... as Quique Flores seems to have spotted problems in that dressroom too...

That's why I'm not ultra happy with the signing, The last thing Liverpool needs is to enter a problematic guy in the dressroom that talks in Spanish.

In the quality front I'm not worried.

Would rather we had signed him on loan tbh... Good player and one i like, but i was hoping for someone who offers something different. A pacey winger or a good dribbler who can carry the ball and drag defenders...

Not very sure hes the top top quality out and out winger the side seems to be crying for, he's not the quickest and just like Kuyt, Benny and Babel, he cuts inside way too much and more often than not fails to provide the width needed at times. Better than Kuyt perhaps in the role, but still not that high impact winger that most were asking for...
With him and Kuyt in the side i cant see us going for another high value right winger anytime soon unless Kuyt is offloaded...

Anyone honestly believing Kuyt will be dropped for him?

Will be another Lucas/Aquilani scenario where the favourite can not be dropped.

I said this in the rumor thread, but not everybody reads it, Maxi Rodriguez is the reason I follow football, its only fitting that he should join the club I follow as well. Made Up  :)

Remember that one well, Joe.  An absolute corker of a goal.  Love Masch's reaction as well. :D

in the mists of all the bad news, i'd forgotten that we had bought this guy. He is talented, but (as has been said) he did fall out with the management at Athletico.

He could kick start out season with a goal and a performance in our next match. And if he's low on confidence, he'll never have to worry about it again if he can help turn this season around, because the fans will love him.

Here's hoping  :)

Mate, that WOULD be a silver lining wouldn't it ? Here's to hoping....Maybe he could kickstart Riera on the other wing. Horsin' the ball into the box for - dare I say it ! - "Babel" to outscore Torres for the remainder of the season, propelling us to a Top 3 finish, a cup, and....and.....in the process, increasing the value of Babel to £50M so we can sell him and buy Villa and a pile of others....

Dream on...

Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On
