If mascher is going and use Lucas as a direct replacement, we are doomed. Lucas is only good for a back up role and if he start, it means the back up would be even a worse player than Lucas..... There is also no guarantee Rafa is allowed to spend the money if Mascher is fact is sold. Not looking good...

There are reports that Barca are willing to offer Yaya Toure and money for Mascherano, I think if he is determined to leave then it would be beneficial to get a quality midfielder such as Toure as part of the deal. You can read the rumour here.

I won't mind Yaya as a direct replacement for Masch. But I'm scared as hell with the thought of Lucas as a first choice defensive mid. :(

I don't buy the part about us having to accept a cut price deal in the summer. He signed a new contract only last year. They will pay the full whack if they want him.

that wouldn't be a bad deal to be honest.

dont think we'd miss him much... Just hope we use the money wisely if it happens... As it stands, if Barca are part of the deal i wouldnt mind a swap with Toure, think hes a better all-round player than  Mascherano is and would probably fit better in our setup...

I would take Yaya Toure over Masch anyday.

Masch is better at breaking up play and has better work rate, but Toure is a bit like Essien, he can offer things going forward and he can play centre back if there is an injury crisis!

Mascherano won't be cheap so we should stand firm with regards his requests. If Barca are serious and they will offer Toure as part of the deal then absolutely rip their arm off. It is clear that a) Macherano wants to leave and b) Toure's time is up at Barca and he wants a move to the EPL = Deal!!

Exactly. Once you start throwing exchanges into the melting pot you end up with money shaved off the fee in no time, especially if the player we're selling is one they want and the p/ex is someone who wants to leave anyway.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Ouch, doesn't sound too good :(. I have no idea how long that actually rules him out though - probably depends on the extent of the damage (don't I half sound like a doctor eh :D).

It's four games he's banned for I think.

That's a few weeks as it is and rules him out of the Wolves, Villa, Reading and Spurs games. Medial ligament sprains aren't normally that serious so his return to health may well coincide with the elapsing of his ban. In the meantime we have to play Gerrard or Aquilani in the midfield. Perhaps, finally, Aquilani will start a few games on the bounce?
