The ref did not see it, it should have been a red, it was another dirty tackle form a dirty player. I don't like Mascha, I never have and never will but I have to admit he does a bloody good job for us.

i understand you did not like the tackle he put in but why do you not like him??

It was a fair question and wasn't meant to bait anybody, although it clearly did, yet again I provoke the forum's agent provocateur aka my arch nemesis bungleboy.

I don't like Mascherano because he's a dirty player and is too damned stupid to know when to shut up. I only just tolerate it with Stevie and Carra is starting to really irritate this season but I'll let him off because he's only doing it due to lack of pace. Basically I hate cheats and especially hate it when they are players in my team.

As I stated previously, I appreciate his workrate and what he gives to the team but in the same way as when Bellamy played for us I just don't like him.

fair points and it is your right to like dis-like who ever, i have to say though i do like him and i'm glad we have him i think he is a great player and even if he is a little dirty sometimes..... sometimes it is just what we need in the middle of the park

i do understand some of your points like the shouting at refs bit, i agree he should learn to zip it some times, it is ok every now and again but sometimes it gets the ref on his back and could come back to bite him in the as*

if i'm right i have seen steve pushing him away from the ref a few times and telling him to shut it

as for bells well he was just a big a pain but i did like the work he put in and again i did like him and would love to still have him in the team playing along side torres i think they would work very well together

Heimdall... all you ever do is make negative posts. Most of the time people dont know if you are being serious or just trying to wind people up?

You moan and moan about pretty much every move Rafa makes which although may be your opinion.. gets very annoying.

I used to sit by some bloke at Anfield who would just moan and moan through every single match. Even when we scored he would moan. People made complaints about him... he lost his seat.

You wonder why people dont take your posts seriously and although the Mascherano comment you made above was fair and valid.. it annoys people because it is yet again a negative post.

Liverpool to offer Javier Mascherano long-term deal to deter offer from Barcelona   Tony Barrett

Liverpool are set to offer Javier Mascherano a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until 2014 in a bid to keep the midfield player out of the clutches of Barcelona.

Mascherano has been the subject of longstanding interest from the Spanish and European champions after Pep Guardiola, their coach, identified the Argentina captain as the perfect foil for Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta, the attacking midfield duo, almost a year ago.

Last summer it appeared that the Catalan club were ready to try to force a deal through, only to be warned off by Rafael Benítez. The Liverpool manager informed them that Mascherano was not for sale at any price, even though the player appeared to have had his head turned by the possibility of a move to Spain.

In keeping with his policy of tying up key players to long-term deals, Benítez wants Mascherano to follow in the footsteps of Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger and Yossi Benayoun, who have all signed contract extensions during the past 12 months.

Preliminary talks have been held with Mascherano’s representatives and Liverpool are hopeful that the 25-year-old will sign an extension to his present deal, which expires in February 2012.

Negotiations are also continuing with Pepe Reina, the goalkeeper, as Benítez attempts to ensure the services of some of Liverpool’s biggest stars are retained. Reina’s present contract at Anfield expires at the end of the 2011-2012 season.

It is the immediate future of Torres that is of most concern at Anfield, however. The forward, who started a game for the first time in six weeks against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday after an injury to his right knee, joined up with the Spain squad before tomorrow night’s friendly match against France in Paris.

Such is Torres’s importance to Liverpool as they look to hold off the challenge of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa to take fourth place in the Barclays Premier League, that it has led to Jamie Carragher, the defender, praying that his team-mate returns from international duty fully fit.

“Fernando has come back in and it goes without saying how much we have missed him,” Carragher said. “He is still our top scorer, the kind of special player who will make a difference.

“It would be wrong to rely on just one man. After all, you never know, he could come back injured off international duty. Please God, that doesn’t happen, but he makes a big difference and you can see we are a much better team when he is with us.”

Despite Liverpool’s concerns for Torres’s welfare, with Benítez keeping an eye on his progress and involvement in the Spain team, the player himself is keen to get as much match practice as he can and believes that his club manager will understand his reasons for wanting to play for his country.

“Rafa has enough to deal with with what he’s got,” Torres said. “It’s normal that he’s thinking about his interests but he knows that all the players want to go to the national team.

“Luckily, I recovered in time. To be in the national squad is a prize for me. I have the good fortune that the coach called me up after playing just two games since I recovered. I’m tired after playing nearly 90 minutes after two months of not doing so, but I’m ready for as much as the coach thinks is right.”

Javier Mascherano to seek Liverpool assurances before signing deal

Javier Mascherano will seek reassurances over Liverpool’s plans to strengthen manager Rafael Benitez’s squad before agreeing to turn his back on a potential move to Barcelona and extend his contract at Anfield for a further two years.

Published: 7:00AM GMT 05 Mar 2010

Liverpool have approached Mascherano’s representatives with a view to offering the Argentine international captain improved terms on his current deal, which expires in 2012, and the two parties are expected to meet on Merseyside early next week.

Barcelona were widely expected to return with a firm bid for the player this summer after initial enquiries from the European champions’ sporting director Txiki Begiristain were rejected outright by the Anfield club last year, but Liverpool are confident a deal worth around £100,000-a-week will be enough to retain the midfielder’s services.

The club will have to convince him, though, that owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have the resources to equip Benitez with a side capable of maintaining their Champions League status and challenging for the Premier League title after a campaign tinged with desperate disappointment.

“Liverpool have approached us to discuss a new contract and my agent will have a meeting in the next few days,” said Mascherano. “The reality is that I am very happy at Liverpool. I want to know what the club’s plans are and then we will see if, at this moment in time, I can renew my contract.

“It is not that I felt unsettled [by the rumours of Barcelona’s interest] in the summer or that I am more at home now. I have always been very happy at Liverpool. Everyone at the club has always treated me very well. That is all there is to say at this stage.”

Liverpool are also thought to be close on sealing a new, five-year contract for the Spanish international goalkeeper Pepe Reina as Benitez looks to secure the futures of all of his most valuable assets.

I thought I saw confirmation yesterday that Reina had already signed a new contract no ? If that's the case, then surely THIS is just rumour as well ?
