There are pros and cons if mascherano does leave.

I don't think i need to list the cons as everyone knows we will lose some bite in midfield if he does leave...

But one of "pro"s (if benitez plays his cards right) is a chance to get a holding midfielder who is more of a goal threat than mascherano (like Barry or Alonso). I thought the world of mascherano when we had alonso. But once alonso had departed....we can all see the "real" mascherano. 30 million for him is an awesome deal IMO.

If we can just get a whole team of players who offer more of a goal threat (regardless of their positions.....except for a goalkeeper obviously), that would be a good foundation for success.

Has he left yet then or are we just jumping to conclusions based on media speculation

. What I'm getting at is perhaps a comment like that is just a tad premature (as was the case when there were rumours about Agger leaving which were untrue). I'm not saying you can't have an opinion on Masch and the whole Barca saga but why not wait and see what happens in january before bashing one of our own players?

I see where you are coming from mate but I have lost respect for Masch a long time ago. IMO he isn't 100% all there this season, he was trying to for a move away in the summer and has sulked since. I don't know if the rumors of him being on only 25k were true but still his behaviour otherwise has been childish. And after Rafa took him from a low point at West Ham this is how he treats him and the fans.

I read awhile ago that he got £5million for signing for us Bav. Thats £20k a week over a five year contract, plus his wages. Which probably explains why he wanted to go so soon. Take the huge signing on fee and then get big wages elsewhere! I am not sure if we paid the signing on fee or his owner/agent paid it.

Whatever it is it has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I don't want mercenaries playing for us who are only interested in money. But it is imperative we replace him with someone of equal if not better quality.

I am real disappointed in Masch, perhaps he isnt the guy we though he is.
If his heart is not here, no use keeping him, saying LFC giving him a chance when he was rotting at WH, blah blah blah, all bu11sh1t. Bad news is we will be seeing more of Lucas.

when his heart is in it, Masch is one of the best defensive central midfielders in the world.

However, as we've seen, when his heart isn't in it he's a whinng, crying little kid. He did it at West Ham and he's doing it here. Hopefully we get 30 million and can use that to get a couple of new faces in who want to play for LFC

He did want to leave maypax, but luckily for us he accepted the new contract he was offered. It's no secret Masch has wanted away, I don't see why you insist on backing him so much. Ok he hasn't left yet but it will only be a matter of time.

Rafa could sign two 15 million rated players, which i think would be the best way forward

Its just a pity Rafa didn't sign Barry at the start of the season, now we could be looking to sign a fit Aquilani with the Masch money at Christmas. Barry and Aquilani may not be quite on a par with Alonso and Masch, but there might not be a lot in it? Everyone keeps raving about Toure, but while I haven't seen much of him, I can't say I have been overly impressed so far.
