nonsense, all he has to do is give an average performance and you will claim he was one of the better players on the pitch. He did Ok, big deal whats new? its high time he stepped up and added something to the team

well tonight he was very much above average as you say it , was all over the place in a positive way , broke down countless attacks even burst forward on a number occasions , won countless tackles and headers in middle of the pitch , harassed the hell out of the oppos cm , won the ball back on a number of occasions , released the forwards with clever balls but kept it simple and flowing and was safe in possession . Yes i believe he was one of the better players tonight .

Lucas doesn't just go forward, he "bursts" forward. He doesn't close down the opposition, he "harasses the hell out of them". And he doesn't just pass it to Torres, he "releases him with clever balls"

Dunno what people expect out of this guy to say he had a particularly good game, he helped control the game a lot more than Gerrard did.  If that doesn't mean he had a good game and not just average I don't know what he has to do for you guys really.

If he doesn't do it a la G (like Steven Gerrard), then it obviously can't be spoken of with superlatives. He's not that kind of player, if he does his job very well then he has a good game. That doesn't mean he has to make surging runs into the box, play hollywood passes 3/4 of the length of the pitch or get booked for taking a free-kick early, it means if he wins the ball frequently, holds onto rather than gives away possession, passes accurately and not put team-mates in trouble and joins in attacks then he's had a good game.

Actually GYBS, I've changed my mind. He played :censored: cause he missed the target with a free header he could and should have got on target. Sell him in January, he's no f in good :D  :p

Jaysus you're a hard man to please....  :D

I think he did fairly well last night. Loads of energy and application. The header at the corner flag was a bit of a mare though....

I actually agree with GYBS but this is the only time so far  :D

He played well last night, he won the ball back time and again after sloppy passes from other players and then gave it simple.
he has toughened up as well getting his body in front of players and shielding the ball better, drawing freekicks etc.

He gets up well for a little fella as well, although his free header was poor though.
To me he did what he was asked to do and appears to be growing in confidence. There have been lots of times in the past where he has been dire last night and against Burnley he has looked alot better.

Just to say the way Mascherano has started the season if Aquilani was fit now for me it would be the argentine that missed out until he gets his act and form together.
