I like how on that last cross to messi with the outside of his boot he looks away for no particular reason at all

The one that got away....just imagine if we get this guy... Rafa will use him as a right winger..damn he's good. Like the outside of the boot pass...excellent.

Defensively, he had a good tussle with Malouda on the few occasions the Chelsea man got forward. I wouldn't rate him as the best right back defensively I've seen by a long shot though, although he's got a bit of pace about him and seems strong enough. He did have a wee roll about on the deck at one point before springing to his feet and running around like a spring chicken, and what with all his gesticulating he seems to me to be a bit of a drama queen.

It didn't require any insight on my part though as I've heard about his reputation to see that it's when he goes over the half way line that he really comes to life. He's obviously not afraid of bursting beyond the play, as he almost got in second half. He also distributes it well. He had one blockbuster shot in the second half which nobody seemed particularly surprised about, and he put two absolutely World class crosses in during the final fifteen minutes. One of them the young kid they brought on up top should have been shot for not scoring from, and the second one fizzed accross the goal and missed everyone. I think (although I'm not sure) that the first one was with his right foot, the second was I'm fairly sure with his left.

Anyways, whoevers fault it was/is that we didn't sign him (and I know most people are of the opinion it is Rick parry's fault) almost certainly made a fairly big blunder based on that, even for 12 million quid or whatever it was.

The other bloke who really impressed me aside from the superstars who only flickered intermittently like harbour lights when viewed from a fishing boat, was (I think his name is) Yaya Toure who gave a monsterous performance in midfield. He would improve Man Utd's team out of all recognition, as would the holder Porto had when they played them.

Messi, although doing absolutely feck all illumiates the match from time to time with a mesmeric swerve or piece of control. Like an A list actor who's taken a bit part in his mates movie just as a favour, even when he's got no lines he kind of drifts into the scene and steals the show. A truly wonderful footballer.

Agreed 100% Mick.

And yes, Yahya Toure is a monster of a player......
If we were playing a 4-4-2, he'd be one hell of a partner for Gerrard IMO.

I can't actually view Youtube at work as it is just a series of slowmo sequences. They (Telecom NZ) did send me a broadband box thing through the post but once I'd got it out of the box and looked at all the cables I instantly lost the appetite to bother with it. It does work a treat a paperwieght though for all the invoices, I'll give it that.
On the question of striking options, I found myself agreeing with Lando earlier which doesn't happen all the time. In his post, he broadly said that what we need is a bloke who can fill in for Torres or Gerrard when they're injured or rested, and won't whinge about it. As he said, Owen would kind of fir the bill if it weren'tfor the fact that he gets injured quite a lot. He did actually include another reason why Owen wouldn't infact be the answer, but he said it better than I will.

Sabre likes the idea of Samuael Eto and I must say I like the idea of Samuel Eto as replacement right back, central mid or wherever else you want to put him. I think he's a superb player but I don't think we'd either get him or that he'd put up with his second fiddleness.

The one I like who I think fits the bill is Robin Van Persie as I've said a few times. I think he could play either Gerrard or Torres role which would give him more game time, while if needs be I think he could play wide as well.

I agree what you saw of ALves yesterday, but that's just a game and it's not a common representation of his usual games against big teams. He's far better than our current best option for RB, unfortunately for us. Not particularly a great night of Alves, very good game of Malouda, who, BTW, seems to have improved a lost from last season.

As for Yaya, yes, he's very strong and powerful, but I like holding mids with better distribution of the ball.

Tuncay,Alves,Downing Johnson - all players would take

was thinking people would be shy on Alves, but I think he just needs a change of scenery, Tuncay, Johnson and Downing are all decent shouts as well.

And wintersleep, everytime I have seen Dzeko (3 games) he has looked impressive

alves would be a good power striker and tuncay would be a good clever creative player - downing i think will go to the highest bidder - more than likely spurs and johnson would be a good option for pace on the right

Alves?

Tuncay yes. Downing no thanks. He's Spurs standard and would be worth about £5m if he wasn't English.

His conduct was a complete disgrace. On a par with Drogba, absolutely disgusting.

Yeah he is a real diver that one. Great going forward though.

I wouldn't personally read too much into his acting abilities (Alves). Drogba is the worst for it but it doesn't stop him being a fine player, ditto Arjen Robben. I wasn't meaning the observation as a slight on Alves's abilities, I was simply writing what I saw. Most players when they play in the Premiership gradually realise that the rules are kind of different in England anyway given time, and I'm sure if he ever plays there he'll get the jist of it too.
