Why is it that Andy Grey seems the only guy capable of explaining the tactics, why don't the other commentators do it or can't they.

Also why do you never hear tactics talked about by the manager even after the game, surely then the threat is over having just altered then for the game they just played.

Also the tactics are rarely discussed in detail in the newspapers.

Can anyone guide me somewhere to where these issues are discussed.

Thats like asking a chef to tell you how to cook a certain meal.

If everyone knew about it we'd all be football coaches. Its pretty simple really. Basic things like defending deep, defending a high line, attacking with through balls, long balls, down the wings etc.

Its all to do with the strengths of your players. You play a tactical game to stop opponents playing and to maximise your own players ability.

What exactly did you want to know?

Simply put I want to know how Andy Gray knows all the ins and outs of the formation, who will be substituted etc. I guess yer right anyone knew that much they may/could be a manager.

I suppose if you take the formations and get details of players strrenghts and weakness and then compare it with the opposition then you are were I want to be.

There is another posting elsewhere on the forum on formations which I have read also.

Kinda, Bang on, none of the pundits or for that matter any of the Players or Managers in their over-hyped books ever reveal anything of their tactics or succesful playing styles.

Andy Gray does not know his a.rse from his elbow.

He knows who will be substituted cus as you watch the pictures SKY provide he looks into the dugout and on the fourth officials board and passes that info on before you see the pictures. Are you really that gullable?

Do you want to buy any tartan paint, sky hooks, glass hammers or waterproof sponges?

Ok Leon, if Andy Gray dosn't know what is going on. Who does? Because, it seems to me that of all the pundits, he is the only one who makes an attempt to predict and explain tactical moves and substitutions. Whereas, Hansen and Lawro' mainly go in for 'bayoneting the wounded' and 'stripping the dead' and others like 'Wrighty' are a sensationalist joke. Next time you are thinking of your 'Tartan Paint' etc, give some thought to the real implication of the discussion.

I think Andy Grey is good cos he's the only one that explains anything. I've never heard a manager nor anyone cpable of doing it, nor anyone else on the forum.

If AG was that s**te then why dont the others show their hand?

Andy Gray is the most biased commentator I have ever had the misfortune to listen to. The way he kisses ****** is a joke.

You clearly need to get out more if you think he is top dog.

Sky have loads of airtime that needs filling hence why everything is so bloody hyped and dramatic

Once the team is announced you can have a rough idea of the tactics a manager will deploy but its only when the game has started you can spot the specifics

But the graphics etc are quite abd AG seems to enjoy playing with them

andy gray hates liverpool simple as. he's also so far up fergie's a#se it's untrue.

as for him knowing tactics, it appears to me that when discussing fromations at the start of games he just moves the midfield players around a bit.

I have to agree, he looks at the gooners team and says, reyes will come wide and Pires will break into the hole and into the box.
