Resign Crouch. (If Portsmouth goes down), he will accept to be the second choice after Torres.

Crouch, no bleedin' way....he wasn't happy playing second fiddle to Torres before he left, so he certainly won't come back.
Owen....hmmmmm....dunno - he's a bit of a Darren Anderton sick-note, isn't he ?
Reyes.....interesting, but where is he now ? And would he come back to the Premiership ?

I'd still like to see one of the Reserves thrust into the limelight. Many have stepped up to that level in the past. It'd cost thing and could be a stroke of genius...

Fernando Cavenaghi, Alberto Gilardino, Fabio Quagliarella, Mirko Vucinic, Álvaro Negredo.  All scoring fairly regular this year. All good but not good enough to cause a major disrupt in the first XI. Could play 2 up top on occasion, but would know that in the key games, their job is to watch in awe of Gerrard/Torres.

somebody who was really hot a while ago but as far as I can tell people have cooled on him (which I think is good because that should lower price/expectations/play time demand): Vagner Love.  Looked pretty good in the CHampions league whenever I have seen him. Also shouts for Pavel Pogrebnyak of Zenit.

Luis Suárez is scoring a lot at Ajax (for whatever that is worth), but is also a good shout because he can play out wide. However this would be a very cautionary tale because he was Babel's replacement, so we could end up with the exact same player.

Owen is finished. Not to mention Rafa held out his hand and twice Owen slapped it away. He can rot in injury hell for all I care. He is still a good finisher but unless he were prepared to come on a pay as you play deal then no way.

and then the more familiar Santa Cruz shouts (feel like his stock has peaked and is now on the down) and so is Zaki's stock.

Kenwyne Jones, Camerone Jerome, Ebanks-Blake (scoring for fun at Wolves), Victor Moses. Obafemi? Ashton? getting desperate now

Don't know anything about André-Pierre Gignac but he is the leading goalscorer in France at just 23 years of age. Plays for Toulouse.

And Benzema is another one who I feel was really hot last summer, not so sure how much he is the "it" guy anymore.

The only 2 from that list I would take would probably be Zaki or Benzema. Not sure about Zaki still but we would never afford Benzema. Doesn't he have some silly price tag?

I would be really worried about Zaki, personally. But then again, I wouldn't be that worried that he wouldn't be better than N'Gog.

We probably could afford Benzema if we really wanted him and nobody else, but I wouldn't want to buy him.  Let the Mancs, Chelsea, or Barca overpay if his price is still inflated.

Hopefully whoever we sign will have premiership experience, with this in mind, off the top of my head I'll give a shout for Benni McCarthy (seriously underrated) and Oberfemi Martins, think either of them surrounded by the quality we already have would be more than successful, also, for a short term (quick fix) I'd go for Eider Gudjohnsen.

I think we should wait and see who go down for options on who to sign as a second striker

Newcastle - Duff, Oba, Owen, Viduka
Middlesborough - Alves, Tuncay,
Blackburn - McCarthy, Santa
Sunderland - Jones

Theres a few good options there and chances are they'll all want out should their respective teams go down
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

JFT 96 - Gone but never forgotten
YNWA 15/4/1989
God Bless You All

3 of the best suggestions right there woof.

I also like Tucay and suggested him a long time ago on here, but he's not the type of guy who'd suit us as the focal point of attack if Torres was unavailable, he likes to drop deep a bit like Keane.

I agree on McCarthy.  Underrated and is around 30 now, but like you say, in the right team I think you could get one or two good seasons and a lot of goals out of him.

Jeez, didn't realize Benni McCarthy was that old already, 'course at my age everyone who can run around for 90 minutes look as though they've just left school   :D .

OK stick him in with Gudjohnsen for a 1-2 season quick fix.

:D

That's a good shout - the fella has ability.

If money is tight or we need to spend most our money elsehwere Kanu on a free transfer and give him a one year contract. Not a bad option for a player who can play upfront on his own and has shown his quality in the Premier League.
