Robbie keane - [EDIT: On His Way Back to Spurs]

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

On current form you'd be lucky to get £10m for Keane, only a muppet would bid more than that for a 28 year old who all is clearly not well with at Anfield to such an extent he can't get on the bench some games and when he is on the bench he stays there.

I think we have to weather the storm or take a big hit on that transfer. And then who do we buy? Another Bellamy, Crouch etc to fall foul the same way? I'm not suggesting Keane is a victim or in any way faultless, but Rafa has a pretty poor record with strikers and buying them only to sell them within two seasons.

Babel needs to be used as a sub and coming on as a sub striker. How tedious and predicatable is it to see the first substitution be LM for LM? I have stopped being amazed that they are ineffective substitutions, they generally only ever involve Keane off (as opposed to on) and Rafa not using all three in a draw is no shock either. He may somehow conjure up a title challenge/win, but frankly his management has so many weak spots (being generous) that it will be some kind of miracle. For the players at his disposal - players such as Keane, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Carragher, Reina, Skrtel, Hyypia, Agger, Riera and Torres - the team should not be drawing half the games it does. They are better than draws at home to Fulham, bitters, West Ham, Hull and Stoke - even when missing some key players they are good enough players. Surely Rafa can get more out of the squad he has than he has managed thus far.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Rafas treatment of Keane is absolutely disgusting. Bear in mind he has got previous though. Remember Crouch?
How he can keep Kuyt on and not play Keane at all shows us what is wrong at LFC
I dont want to slag him off but he has to stop :censored: around and get some momentum going before its too late

Football is big business and he´s paid a fortune to score goals. Rafa has backed the lad since day 1 but Keane has not produced the goods.

Its a viscious world, but Keane is the one with the problem, not Rafa.

??? What game where you watching?

I will be very suprised if he is still here when the transfer window shuts, I think we should do a swap for the russian fella at Spurs Pavlichenko or however you spell it.

i dono ...he should be given a fair run in the team ............ i feel.

the guy has had plenty of time on the pitch and for 90% of the time has been poor

in the grand scale of things robbie keane has not had a lot of time on the pitch, as compared to Kuyt for example

League games, he has had more than all bar 6 others - all of whom are part of the spine.

source 4thegame.com

Kuyt 7 goals

Keane 7 goals

--

Kuyt 2569 minutes on pitch

Keane 1775 minutes on pitch

---

there's a very big difference there. (yes I know kuyt plays on the right, but he was also given the job of being a lone striker, and he didnt score in those games)

* interesting sidenote: Kuyt has only scored when Keane's been on the pitch *

But not only that, I put this on here a while ago

Breakdown of goals:

Keane

2 vs Bolton (paired upfront Kuyt) - subbed off, dropped next game

1 vs Arsenal (lone striker) - subbed off

2 vs West Brom (paired upfront Kuyt) - subbed off, dropped next game

1 vs A. Madrid (lone striker) - subbed off

1 vs PSV (paired upfront Torres) - subbed off, dropped next game

- you look at that and try and tell me thats not damaging to a striker who's trying to get a run of goals (and games) together

I know he's had his bad games, but who hasn't (kuyt miss vs everton springs to mind)

The facts speak for themselves, hes had a hard time of it.

But hes a big boy and a 20million pound striker. when hes given the chance he needs to look more lively and more of a threat.

Im not siding with anyone here i really want the lad to suceed for us all I mean is if he came and was banging them in left right and centre we wouldnt be talking like this.

It works both ways, he needs to be given more of a chance but he needs to do more with his chances.

its the chicken and the egg
How can he get a good run if hes on the bench, subbed or dropped?
Rafa is wrecking Keanes head. No question.
He is a proven premiership player and striker
Yet he cant get a place in our team because he misses chances?
Do me a favour...

If the job of the manager is to give a player confidence so he plays well and improves then Rafas not doing his job properly
Simple as.

But along the same line as your point you could argue that Rafas job is to pick the line up from available players to best suit how he wants to play in that game and if he feels that any of his players are unprepared for the game, physically, tactiacally or mentally then he can choose to not play them. If this is how Rafa sees it I am SURE he tells keane why, or I would hope, and then it is Kenaes job as a proffesional to raise his game and attitude in training.

Not as simple as.

I know Keane has a few when he has played this season but Berbatov didn't have a lot of goals to his name until recently and he has now come good for Utd.
If Keane is given full games and time im sure he will start putting them away, He should be playing every game at home with Torres and not two holding midfielders.

Players are not robots.
If Rafa is picking players best suited to win games then hes not doing very well is he?
Considering he paid £20 000000 for Keane its not very sensible to leave him out is it?
If Keane is kicking off I dont blame him.
Rafa should not be punishing players who disagrree with him. They are not children. Rafa is only hurting the club in the end with his stubborness and single mindedness.
If the players cant challenge him then the staff should

Im backing Robbie Keane 100%.

Rafa did the same thing with Crouch no matter how well he played and it was always Kuyt he left on.

It's an absolute joke the way some players are treated by Rafa.
