His confidence is clearly absolutely high, he was everywhere  and for the first time this season he actually looked glad to score. Now whether it's his own fault that his confidence is up,whether it's Rafa's fault or my fault doesn't really matter too much right now, the question is where do we go from here with him?

From his contribution tonight, you could be forgiven for thinking that he is absolutely superb, but we know that actually he isn't. That said, from where he is now to getting to a point where he makes no contribution is quite a quantum leap, and it may take time. Time isn't something we are actually in posession of much of at the moment, so what do we do?

Do we just give up and flog him off, probably taking a 20 or 30 million pound profit into the process? Do we persevere and stick with the 4-4-1-1? Do we continue with the current policy of giving him every game and hope his confidence stays, or do we write this season off as a good job with him and give it another try next time around?

The problem is which struck me against Everton a couple of times while Torres was displaying his brilliance, even at 80% fit, is what the feck do we do if Torres breaks down again? Clearly Kuyt is no striker (and once again he showed us how true that statement is tonight for the last 20 mins) so who would we play there? Egg Nog?

It's really a tricky one. I'm certain we've handled Gerrard  really well and it's directly contributed to his state of mind, but what we should do with him now, feck knows to be honest.

That scouse humour gets me every time. I'm like the little kid who hears his first rude joke, I feel I ought to laugh but secretly I don't get it. Never mind, I'm sure everyone else loved it so I'll just join in

i think leon's point is based around the pointlessness of making generalisations about benitez' handling of players, his man management. actually i was mulling over the same thing in bed last night - i can't for the life of me figure out how some players such as keane, pennant, babel are suffering or have suffered due to the way the manager uses them when others like gerrard and carragher are arguably playing the best football of their lives.

the obvious answer is that gerrard and carra get to play pretty much every minute of every game, they have the opportunity to keep consistent and to see themselves as vital parts of the team. i think its more complex than that but i'm not exactly sure what it is. i don't think benitez is a good man manager in any way whatsoever and we know from past experience that gerrard likes an arm round his shoulder every now and again.

kuyt was without doubt an incredibly effective player in the dutch league, he plays just about every minute here aswell but contributes very little. so what has changed with him?

and so to robbie keane. what the buggering fu'ck is going on there? he's a good player, he cost 20 million quid, but he's playing about as cr'ap as i would. is it the pressure of his fee? is it wanted to do too well for the club he supports? is it because the manager is handling him badly? i think its a combination of the first and the last - he's clearly under huge pressure and he's getting absolutely no help, or at least it appears that way, of dealing with the pressure. the really scary part is that its beginning to show the first signs of being a lost cause. he's not contributing much to the games he plays in and arguably our strongest 11 doesn't leave room for him. do we just sit him in the reserves for a month or two to get games and find his touch and confidence in front of goal without the attached pressure? do we just use him in cup games? or do we get rid at a massive loss and take a gamble on someone else?

Let's get real here. Who's fault is it that Keane is a gibbering wreck who is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike?
Step up Mr. Benitez...
Don't kid yourself that Keane's current form(?) is not solely down to one person: The Manager. Rafa has a habit of bamboozling people where they don't know where he's coming from or the effect he's going for. Look at his selections, formations and tactics! Against the likes of mighty Stoke City for example. :p
Rafa should maybe stop analysing things so much and ease his attention to detail and pick his strongest team and just tell them to go out and win?

The transfer in general was one of the most baffling that this club has made in recent history imo, especially as we'd discovered a formation which suited us but Keane wouldn't fit into.

Add to that thought :

- Torres is the main man, so will be the one in 'one up front'
- Crouch wasn't happy sitting on the bench so was sold

so we sign a striker for £20.3m which meant something had to give. I think we did well to get what we did for Crouch, however Keane hasn't proved any more of a hit than Crouch was (so far) We wouldn't play 4-4-2 to play Crouch so we seel him, buy Keane and play 4-4-2 - go figure!

It's a crying shame Keane's namesake isn't at SOL anymore or we could have offloaded Robbie on the black cats

Sorry Sir Rodger I think you are wrong.Rafa has been very patient with Keane. I know he has pulled him off after 70 minutes in many amtches but that has simply because he was failing to score and didn't look like scoring. Only person to blame for Robbie's demise is old father time and Robbie. He needs to shape up and stop sulking ffs.

I'd sell him to the bitters in return for Cahill, and play him and Stevie G la just behind Nando.
