Robbie keane - [EDIT: On His Way Back to Spurs]

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

IMO we've seen the best of Torres and Gerrard (our 2 best players) when we have played 1 upfront.

People might look at it as defensive playing 4-5-1 but when you think that, when we field our 1st XI, you have Gerrard, Riera and Kuyt supporting the lone striker it looks pretty attacking to me.

When you then think that in reserve we've got Keane, Babel, Yossi, El Zhar and Ngog ??? we've got plenty of attacking options

My only worry about the 2nd half of the season is that list of reserves. They are all a bit hot and cold or inexperienced and I'd like to see us add one v.good attacking reserve.

If I maybe honest, I think the writing is on the wall for Keane after the Stoke's game.

If he can't even get a run out when Torres is benched, when we were chasing the game and there is still ONE unused substitution. I think I am really worried for him TBH.

It bears the hallmark of Crouch, Bellamy, Cisse if you ask me.

hes a good footballer but for everyones sake i hope hes sold sooner rather than later... its getting ridiculous and rafa is starting to make a clow outta himself buying a playr for 20mill or so then benching him after he scores and keeping him out of the side when ur other striker is out, keeping him on the bench when u need goals..etc

if i was keane id be banging on his door with a transfer request

Couldnt have said it better. I remember when crouchy was on a good run and yet still he was getting lack of games. It is becomming ridiculous though. You bought the man for 20 fekin mill, play him! Even though he missed sitter against preston you never know maybe back in the prem he would have been clinical like he was with arsenal and bolton.

spot on , rafa's spoiling his career by leaving him on the bench , he's got 3 in his last 2 than rafa drops him against newcastle , plays him against preston where he misses 3 sitters and than drops him against stoke ?

Does rather seem Rafa does everything he can NOT to bring Keane on from the bench. It clearly wasn't going to be our night, even at half-time, and yet Rafa's first sub was his normal one to take off Riera. Second was to take off Benayoun and bring on Babel and did he even bother with a third?

It's hard to blame Rafa for benching Keane, he has missed too many chances to be considered wholly reliable. But Kuyt isn't cutting it as a striker, I get the feeling his run of six goals in 10 games came mostly playing down the right with Keane as solo striker. Those who blame Keane's poor finishing on Rafa not playing him after he does finally score should consider that a lot of us, if not a majority, have just as many reservations over Keane's finishing as Rafa. But I and others would give him a chance off the bench more than Rafa has - four appearances off the bench adding up to just TWENTY minutes. Apart from Kuyt and Gerrard, how many shots did others muster on goal yesterday?

I say Keane should have played some part yesterday, I don't disagree about dropping him for the Newcastle game because a) we won 5-1, hardly a bad result indicating it was wrong, and b) he missed so many chances against Preston it is impossible to conclude whether he'd score or miss if he did get a run when "in form" - not that scoring three goals in two games is exactly a long run to prove "form"

I'm not sure he's quite at the Crouch stage of things, he did start against Preston and since his long run of consecutive appearances at the start of the season (19), he has played seven out of 13. People have short memories on here, he had plenty of chances given to him early on, Rafa never has been a patient man. In those last 13 games in which Keane's played seven times, Keane has played 553 minutes which is an average of 42.5 minutes (so basically played just under half the time). Crouch played in five of the last 13 games of last season, 342 minutes which is an average of 26.3 minutes (minutes divided by 13) Crouch scored three, same as Keane but in two less appearances

I am not one of Keanes biggest fans, thought it was a wrong move him coming here, but the treatment of the lad is a fuckin disgrace TBH.
Play him or sell him one or the other ok he missed sitters against Preston but he played well and is more of a goal threat than dirk Kuyt.
Feel really sorry for the lad.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

There must be something going on behind the scenes with Rafa and Keane!
Im wondering if Keanes went all guns blazing at Rafa about not getting games(he has a right to IMO) and Rafa is sitting him out to show who's boss, being stubborn if thats the case!Of course we dont know the truth but I deffo think something is up.

Its insane not to be giving Keane games..he might not score if he plays but he sure as fu'ck wont score with his @rse on the bench.
FFS Rafa start torres and Keane next game in a 4-4-2 and stick with it for at least 5 games to see hiow it goes!

Well its backfired now (or at least it will if Utd win all their games in hand) so the pressure will only become bigger on Rafa.

He needs to start playing, he scored 3 goals in 2 games and was dropped! Kuyt had a :censored: 5 games and wasn't dropped.

I'd love it if we swapped him with Pavluchenko.

Yeah I quite like him but he seems to be having trouble picking up English. I hear he still has a translator in training.
