but despite all that, the stat that matters to strikers:

this season:

Owen: 14 appearances (5 as sub) - 8 goals

Keane: 22 appearances (4 as sub) - 4 goals

----

does it matter if he plays half the amount of games, if he scores twice as many goals?

Stick in last seasons stats for the 2 players and the season before while you are at it and then we will see if it matters!

Infact, I find it idiotic and can't think of a good reason not to. The only reason would be injuries, but at the price he's worth a gamble in my book.

Its typical that the Rafa lovers and Rafa can do no wrong brigade don't want him back though I have to say. These are the same people that would be saying things like theres no room for sentiment and other :censored: like that when going for the title and the same idiots that defend :censored: like Kuyt week in week out!

I can't believe anyone actually want him back.

- he is old
- he has lost his pace
- injury prone
- boring style
- small and inefficient in our 4-2-3-1 setup
- doesn't work or create for the team
- selfish
- weak

I can't think of a single reason why he should be brought back. This ain't no charity. This is football. If you're not good enough, then that's it.

We need some fresh legs with a bit of spark. A little bit of pace and flair up front. We don't need another Keane or Kuyt.

Torres wasn't out for most of the first half of last season.

This season is what I'm concerned about now

there is a rumour, and i will not reveal the source, that stevie g has been in conversation with owen on a possible comeback to lfc.

however, rafa is the gaffer and he has to be convinced. like i said before, do not be surprised if he aint wearing a lfc shirt soon, and keane is back at spurs!!

Yeah alright!

If they accept the higher offer, but Owen refuses to go then the higher offer becomes irrelevant since the only club offering it is then out of the picture. They could hold on for another club to offer the same higher offer, otherwise the next highest offer becomes the best offer. You can't force a player to sign for another club or Pennant would be an ex-red

Let's say

Man Utd offer £80m for Gerrard
Real Madrid offer £64m for Gerrard

Gerrard turns down Man Utd or Liverpool don't want to sell to Man Utd, either way the Man Utd offer is not accepted by club or player so the next best offer that could become a transfer is £64m

But that doesn't mean they'd accept it now does it.

I'm sorry but I don't see how a player can "force" a club into selling him for £5,000,000 less than an agreed deal with another club. Not buying that for a second.

The point is if Owen doesn't accept the club making the £17m transfer then that offer doesn't exist as an option. They may choose to wait for a bigger offer than £12m, but that doesn't mean they won't accept a lower bid. My point was made because you laughed at suggestion they would take the lower offer, they can have no option other than to take £12m or not sell

So while you might be right that they wouldn't necessarily accept the lower bid, it doesn't mean that they won't just because it is lower than £17m. They may not get a better bid than £12m ever again, you can only take any bids on the table which, if Owen scuppers the £17m bid, would be £12m

Come on mate, anyone in his shoes would have gone for the Newcastle bid... its unreal that people are actually slagging him off for it...

If we wanted him we would have paid the asking price... fact is, we didnt want to and we lost out... it doesnt make much sense blaming him for us not making a higher acceptable bid...

what if he rejects the Newcastle offer and RealMadrid end up rejecting our bid ? then what for Owen ?

What if any other club would have come in with a 14mill bid or something (im sure many other clubs came up with offers and it wasnt just Newcastle and Liverpool as been reported)...?!

Bottom line is, we made an offer that wasnt good enough, it was rejected and he had to move to get first team football elsewhere... thats the whole thing... wasnt his fault that he didnt end up in Liverpool... if anything it was the club's fault for not paying the asking price IF THEY WANTED HIM ENOUGH.

i'm concerened about this season. and this thread is about owen. hence the stats.

For what its worth... I really hope keane comes good. I was one of many who celebrated his arrival, and I really like him as a player. I'm 100% behind him - but there is that chance that he will not regain what he had a spurs and hinder more than help us - am concerned about our lack of goals without Torres at the moment, and see Owen as a possibility

Look, its fair that some Liverpool fans don't want him after he promised us a new contract, but ending up leaving to Real Madrid after Houllier was sacked. I was gutted when he left, I felt he let us down and It took time for me to accept what has happened.

He isn't the player he was when he was younger, thats clear because his injuries didn't help him to go back to his best. However, he is still a top class player who can be a really good player and do the job better than some of our players right now. If the money is right, why not? get him, I really don't care what I think about him, what I really care that he can benefit the team, add more quality and give us options that we already lack. Still a top player, wouldn't mind him coming back.
