Steven Gerrard has hinted that Robbie Keane could be sold by Liverpool in January as he struggles to establish himself at Anfield.

Keane has been plagued by poor form since his £20.3million move from Tottenham Hotspur in August and he has been linked with a move back to the capital when the transfer window reopens in January.

Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager, has denied that he will offload Keane, insisting he remains a key part of his plans, while the player himself has reiterated his desire to stay on Merseyside and fight for his place.

However, Mark Lawrenson, in an interview with Irish radio station Today FM, claims Gerrard has told him Keane could be sold in January.

"Sorry to name drop but I had a drink with Steven Gerrard at a function on Saturday night, and we were talking about Robbie Keane," Lawrenson said. "He was saying to me that they [Keane and Gerrard] share the same agent and he thinks something is going to happen with Robbie Keane in January.

"He thinks he's going to be moved on."

The nightmare start to Keane's Liverpool career reached a nadir on Saturday afternoon when Benitez left the striker on the substitutes' bench as Liverpool pushed for a winner against Hull City. For the second weekend running, Keane was left to scamper up and down the touchline as first Nabil El Zhar, then Ryan Babel and most tellingly Lucas Leiva were thrown on to try to make the breakthrough.

Yeh, keane had a really good game today, had some fantastic one two's with his teammates and scored a wonderful goal to silence the boo boys.

BELLAMY

67 mins+ : 17

If Rafa does keep him in January, and I have little doubt he will, then he needs to score at least another 7-10 goals. That will be a poor return for £20.3m, but anything less than 12-15 goals surely won't save him

A great goal, and great anger in the celebration.

Not that I like when players do this sign like they're listening, but probably Keane had more reasons than many to do it after everything they wrote about him in the press.

He is the one that has missed some very easy chances (so easy that Stu would have scored them) so I do not know why he would be angry, has himself to blame and no one else. If he scored everytime he played he would start ahead of Torres no doubt.

He scored from a route one longball, which is his game but not Liverpool's.

Liverpool's way is winning games. We used the long ball in that game, and well used. How many times did we get their back that way? Several, so if a team is advancing their line, and they allow Alonso to send long balls, it's a good resource.

Keane's finishing was spot on.

IMHO he has reasons to be angry, because the press is not talking about his game, but about him leaving the club or having lots of troubles with Benitez. I'm very happy he scored.

You can see Keane will be great for us in CL and in the big EPL games. He looks a different player when comming off the shoulder on the counter attack. I just don't see him scoring against teams that park the bus though which is about 60% of our games.

Lets hope once Torres comes back it helps his game.

A good point and that is what happened once Arsenal went down to ten men. Which was my point as to why he was subbed and not Kuyte.

I can agree with that to an extent, but neither did Kuyt.

If we are talking about getting Robbies confidence back then taking him off again after he scored a really good goal is not the best way of doing it.
I would of subbed Kuyt and left Keane on, especially as he has played far less than the dutchman lately.
